What To Expect From Netflix ‘The Crown’ Season 2 Cast And Storyline

Netflix’s The Crown is perhaps the top series from the streaming giant — it’s certainly the most expensive — and fans of the first season are eager to get even a glimpse at The Crown Season 2. Now, Peter Morgan, the creator of The Crown , is giving the loyal fans some tips about what they can expect from The Crown Season 2, which he says will focus on the backstory of Prince Philip, the childhood of Prince Charles, and the mischievous side of Princess Margaret leading to her engagement.

Earlier this year, Morgan revealed that the current stars of Netflix’s The Crown , Claire Foy and Matt Smith , will be back for Season 2 of the royal series, but fans should understand that they won’t be back for The Crown Season 3. Morgan explains that each season of The Crown covers seven to 10 years in the life of Queen Elizabeth, and there is only so much they can age Claire Foy in the starring role. Morgan is planning to make a big change for The Crown Season 3 by recasting all of the lead actors. At this time, if Morgan has cast the actors to play the middle-aged Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip, he’s not talking. However, fans are certainly eager to hear about it when he wants to share.

While The Crown Season 2 and all seasons will primarily focus on the life and reign of Queen Elizabeth, Peter Morgan explains that viewers are about to learn more about the background of Prince Philip and the childhood of Prince Charles.

“We start to focus on Charles as a young boy and his education, and on Philip and his back story.”

Morgan says he finds it important to tell Prince Philip’s story because he did not have the royal childhood that many expect. In fact, even though Prince Philip is the prince of Greece, his family was driven out of the country, making most of his formative years nomadic.

“Its soul is about Prince Philip’s complexity. I find him extraordinarily interesting–his childhood, again, you couldn’t make it up. The soul of season two is about his complexity.”

But the big thing that fans of The Crown want to know is did Prince Philip cheat? Peter Morgan says that for now, his lips are sealed.

Netflix’s The Crown Season 2 does not have a release date , but sources are saying that fans can expect the series to drop around Thanksgiving, which is when The Crown Season 1 first premiered. The Crown Season 2 will pick up where Season 1 left off, and whereas Prince Charles was a very young boy in Season 1, he is coming of age in Season 2. Peter Morgan says that even though Prince Charles was in the first season, viewers will get to know him in the second season when he becomes a teenager.

“We start to focus on Charles as a young boy and his education.”

And then there is Princess Margaret, who, in The Crown Season 1, faced some hard truths about what would happen if she married the divorced Peter Townsend, and it wasn’t a pretty picture. Margaret was asked to take a look at the life that her Uncle David was now living since his abdication, and it wasn’t to her liking. She was told that the two would not be able to live in England and that her allowance would be minimal.

How Netflix ‘The Crown’ Is Poaching From ‘Downton Abbey’ Once…

The Crown Season 2 will see Vanessa Kirby as Princess Margaret on the rebound from her years-long relationship with Townsend, and Margaret will allegedly get a little wild. But another man is lurking around that corner, and that man is Antony Armstrong-Jones, who becomes Lord Snowdon after marrying Margaret. Matthew Goode, who played Henry Talbot (Lady Mary’s second husband) on Downton Abbey , will play Armstrong-Jones. The Crown Season 2 will see Princess Margaret get married (uncertain whether a big royal wedding will be part of Season 2) and have two children with Armstrong-Jones. Also born during The Crown Season 2 are Prince Andrew and Prince Edward.

Peter Morgan has shared that The Crown Season 2 will see some other famous faces, and that includes President John F. Kennedy and First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy.
