Supergirl isn’t immune to the effects of the real world, as CBS proved this week by pulling the latest Supergirl episode. However, Melissa Benoist saw the lack of air time as an opportunity to sit down and open up to fans. The latest interview gives Benoist’s Supergirl fans an opportunity to focus on their favorite superheroine and to take time away from the recent Paris tragedies.

For Melissa Benoist, Change Is The Key To Supergirl

For Melissa, playing Supergirl has taught her much about herself and her place in the world, giving Ms. Benoist unexpected life lessons that have stayed with her and have become a part of her personality. Benoist reveals that playing Supergirl has forced her to confront her fears and to utilize her strengths as a woman in a way that, Melissa says, also teaches her to retain her grace and kindness when faced with adversity.

Ms. Benoist also finds it refreshing that Supergirl maintains such a positive attitude, always looking for the bright side, no matter how dark and dismal the situation may outwardly seem. Melissa adds that Supergirl’s way of looking at things has inspired her own real life and that she carries these lessons with her in her day-to-day life.

In fact, Melissa addressed the fact that Supergirl has already evolved in many ways in the first 10 episodes. Benoist also reveals that more changes will be coming in the remainder of the season, according to E! News .

“You’re definitely going to see Supergirl and Kara change a lot just in a matter of 10 episodes,” says Ms. Benoist. “We just started filming 11 and I kind of had this moment where I stopped and thought about how much the character has changed in such a short amount of time. I hope people really respond to it.”

Even as Benoist looks to the future of her role and what Supergirl might become, she admits that she can’t help but to think about the past and Helen Slater’s influence on the character of Supergirl. While Melissa admits that it is a huge responsibility, she also sees the role of Supergirl as a wonderful way to reach people.

Supergirl Finds Herself Caught Up In A Political Brouhaha

Although Supergirl is still new and has yet to really touch on current events, CBS was quick to pull a recent episode of Supergirl from its Monday night lineup, following the Paris attacks, because the episode dealt with a bombing. That doesn’t mean fans will completely lose out on seeing Melissa Benoist in action.

CBS is planning to swap out the episode with a different one in which Kara Danvers faces the troubles of dealing with family. The Supergirl episode, which was intended to run during Thanksgiving week, will show a stressed out Kara dealing with the idea that her foster mother, Dr. Danvers (Helen Slater), may be coming for a visit, reports CBS News .

There was more Supergirl talk when Jeb Bush’s earlier comments were again addressed, this time on Thursday’s episode of The Late Late Show .

“I don’t know what channel it’s on, but I’m looking forward to that,” Jeb originally commented in regards to Supergirl during a campaign event.

Upon learning of the comment on CBS This Morning , Melissa Benoist seemed both flustered and flattered. She responded that she was happy that Mr. Bush was excited to see the show.

As the topic was again brought up, Benoist was joined on The Late Late Show by Olivia Wilde and Saoirse Ronan.

“It may be the only thing he’s ever been right about,” Ms. Wilde said as Benoist laughed.

The next episode of Supergirl airs Monday, November 23 on CBS.
