Rumors of an Oasis reunion have abounded for years, but a new report suggests that the classic lineup of the band is set to finally reunite, yet without original bandleader and songwriter, Noel Gallagher.
The latest rumors of Oasis’ resurrection come from the Sun , which claims that former manager Alan McGee met with Paul Ashbee in order to discuss plans for a reunion, as the Independent reports. Noel has previously expressed his reluctance to rejoin Oasis, citing a fulfilling solo career with his band High Flying Birds, yet according to a source quoted by the Sun , his absence has seemingly become less of a problem for the other original members.

“It’s very early days but the wheels are in motion. Liam, Guigsy, Bonehead and Tony are all interested and keen to see how it can work. They don’t seem to mind Noel not being on board, even though some fans won’t regard it as a proper Oasis reunion. But as Noel wants no part in the band, it’s the closest they are going to get to a full-scale comeback.”
Last month, rumors started to emerge that an Oasis reunion could be on the horizon, as NME reports. Citing a “well-placed source,” tabloid reports asserted that the Gallagher brothers had made something of a “gentleman’s agreement” to reform their old band. Noel Gallagher subsequently denied the rumors, claiming that they came from a source close to his brother and saying that he wasn’t interested in an Oasis reformation.
A representative for Liam Gallagher said that the singer had no comment on the rumor that Oasis may reform without Noel Gallagher.

Oasis famously split in 2009, with Noel asserting that he could no longer work with his brother. Noel Gallagher went on to form the High Flying Birds, while Liam Gallagher and the other members of Oasis joined together in Beady Eye. Liam disbanded the act last year, as the Inquisitr previously reported.
Last week, Liam unleashed a spate of insults at Noel on Twitter. In response to comments made by Garry Cobain of Amorphous Androgynous who discussed conversations he had with Noel about a solo record in 2008, Liam tweeted “Busted.” Amorphous Androgynous worked on a collaborative album with Noel Gallagher following his exit from Oasis, but the project was eventually scrapped.

While some fans would no doubt like to see Noel rejoin Oasis, at least one of his famous friends isn’t among them. In a recent interview, Paul Weller stated that he prefers Noel Gallagher’s solo work to his later Oasis material, placing the former Jam frontman squarely in the anti-reunion camp.
