Jane Lynch, the PE coach on Glee, participant of Christopher Guest “mockumentaries” like Best in Show and A Mighty Wind and host of NBC’s crazy Hollywood Game Night , has done something that many friends would like to do if they had money and time to do it. She released a new album of holiday cheer with her friends. A Swingin’ Little Christmas! is put together with Lynch, Kate Flannery (star of The Office) , Tim Davis, and The Tony Guerrero Quintet. The album wasn’t really planned like traditional records. The friends were chatting one day and discussed creating a Christmas album just for fun and then just went and did it. They ended up creating their own label along the way and learned a lot about the processing of music making.
Lynch told SFList that Christmas has sort have been elusive to the comedienne.
“Well, some years as a child, I wouldn’t get the spirit, and I’d get so sad. And in my adult years, I’m in California, and we don’t celebrate it as much here. I don’t go to malls, so I don’t see all the decorations. But when I go home to Chicago… Chicago is a Christmas town, the Christmas spirit there is welcomed in my heart. I love the same rituals in my family: We eat the same food, the same people come over.”

Lynch also said that she drew inspiration for the album from tire stores. Really. Believe it or not, not too long ago, it was not uncommon to pick up holiday album from different stores.
“Firestone released a Christmas album every year with big singing stars of the era, the more popular stars, not the rock stars, with all these different carols,” say Lynch.
“That’s very much what we modeled our album, A Swingin’ Little Christmas! after. We’ve got our own standards and our own takes, you’ll recognize them. At home, that’s what we would do — play the same stuff all over again.”
Lynch says that Swingin’ Little Christmas has a retro feel to it that will make you think of your favorite Christmas TV specials. Some songs on the album are new but they sound like they’ve been written years ago. Songs on the album include:
- “A Swingin’ Little Christmas Time”
- “Up on the Housetop”
- “Winter’s Never Cold”
- “Good King Wenceslas”
- “Hallelujah Chorus”
- “Bring a Torch, Jeanette Isabella”
- “Sentimental Christmas”
- “Jingle Bells”
- “Coventry Carol”
- “Christmas is My Favorite Time of the Year”
- “Hey There, Santa”
- “The First Noel”
- “We Three Kings”
- “Silent Night”
- “Carol of the Russian Children”
