Adam West was certainly someone who was well known and well loved by many. While most probably know him as Batman there are many younger fans who would instead recognize his voice from the animated sitcom Family Guy. West has played Mayor Adam West of Quahog, Rhode Island since the second season of Family Guy and has been a regular and reoccurring character ever since.
After the beloved actor passed away June 9 many of his previous co-stars and those who have worked with him in the past have been sharing fond memories of their time with West. Seth MacFarlane, creator of Family Guy sent out an image Tweet (since 140 characters simply wasn’t enough to sum up how he felt about West passing) saying how appreciative he was on the time he got to spend working with Adam.
The message definitely pulls at the heartstrings of those of us who absolutely loved the animated Mayor West who was never short on crazy antics and always seemed to deliver some unexpected but hilarious lines.
“Family Guy has lost its mayor, and I have lost a friend. Adam West was a joy to work with, and the kind of guy you always wanted to be around. His positivity, good nature, and sense of fun were undeniable, and it was always a big jolt of the best kind of energy when he walked in to record the show. He knew comedy, and he knew humanity. I am beyond fortunate to have to privilege of working with him, and he will be proudly missed by all of us. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for all that you have given, Mr. Mayor. You’re irreplaceable.”
This Sunday Fox will be airing an episode from earlier in Season 15 called “The Dating Game”, which saw Mayor Adam West winning an auction for Medieval Castle. A tribute card to Adam West will be displayed before and after the episode.
Though this season of Family Guy is currently over and there will not be any new episodes until the fall, we have to wonder how the show will address the loss of their Mayor. It doesn’t seem like the sort of thing that they would simply gloss over without making note of it at all – and if they do address it, who might possibly be stepping forward to fill the shoes left behind by Mayor Adam West?
As MacFarlane put it – he’s irreplaceable. No one could have made that role more lovable than Adam West did. The character (along with a cameo-character on the Fairly Odd Parents as CatMan) brought a whole new generation of fans to know and love West just as much as their parents and grandparents before them.
