The impressive performance that Courtney Barnett delivered on the Saturday Night Live stage compelled fans and critics to flood Twitter with their reactions and responses.
Quite a few of those tweeted responses focused on two key points: (1) Courtney Barnett’s debut SNL performance was amazing and (2) Meghan Trainor should not have won “Best New Artist” at this year’s Grammy awards ceremony over Courtney.
Everyone watching SNL last night now finally realizes why people were so pissed when Meghan Trainor won the Grammy over Courtney Barnett.

The Courtney Barnett vs. Meghan Trainor is nothing new; this “discussion” has been going on via social media since Meghan first took the stage to accept the award earlier this year.

In a December, 2015, interview with Billboard magazine, Courtney Barnett made her feelings (or rather lack thereof) about the Grammys and her Grammy nomination for “Best New Artist” crystal clear.
“I’m just not that interested in… You just live in your own little bubble, like, or I do anyway… I don’t know much about anything really. I don’t really follow that much. I’ve found a couple of albums or artists I like, but really I just do my own thing — I’m not so concerned about what everyone else is doing and what the trend is… I’ve never followed the Grammys, I don’t know. But its just nice to have that recognition on such a huge international scale.”
In addition to Meghan Trainor, Courtney Barnett was placed in a category with other nominated artists such as Tori Kelly, Sam Hunt, Meghan Trainor, and James Bay.
However, during the same interview with Billboard , Barnett confirmed that none of those nominated artists were on her radar either simply because she admittedly did not know who any of them were in the first place.

When asked whether or not she would listen to their music to get a feel for what she was up against, Courtney’s blunt honesty emerged yet again.
“I probably won’t. I listen to music when my friends recommend it to me, I don’t often just go out and buy a record because it was in a magazine or it was on a list or something. So, yeah, I probably won’t. I feel like there’s so much music in the world that I haven’t listened to yet that I want to listen to.”
Courtney Barnett released her debut album, Sometimes I Sit and Think, and Sometimes I Just Sit , last March. Her work led to her receiving a nomination at the 2016 Brit Awards for “International Female Solo Artist” in addition to her “Best New Artist” Grammy nomination. Even though she did not win the Grammy award, Courtney did walk about with four ARIA Music Awards for her debut album: “Best Cover Art,” “Best Independent Release,” “Breakthrough Artist,” and “Best Female Artist.”
