People all over the world responded in some way to the photo of Caitlyn Jenner on Monday when the cover of Vanity Fair was unveiled. Family, friends, fans, and celebrities spoke out and sent tweets. Even President Barack Obama sent an encouraging tweet to Caitlyn. One woman said, “She’s beautiful!” That same woman had something else to say. According to Access Hollywood , the woman who gave birth to the person the world is talking about says, “I still have to call him Bruce .”
Esther Jenner, 88, explains why she will continue to use the name “Bruce.”
“I still have to call him Bruce. His father and I named him that. It’s going to be a struggle for me to get used to the change, but happily so … I’m very happy for him – or her!”
Caitlyn Jenner’s mom said she met Caitlyn before the cover was released. The former Olympian champion had sent sent a plane to take his mom to the West Coast so she could meet Caitlyn before the cover was unveiled. Esther was happy to spend some time with Caitlyn before her identity was announced to the public.
“I was there last week, well actually, I got home a week and a half ago. And I met Caitlyn.”
Her first impression was that Caitlyn is beautiful and so much more at ease. Even so, she said she will be sticking to what she’s used to, at least for now. According to People , she’s not quite willing to part with the name she gave her child at birth .
Many fans on social media noted that Caitlyn looked like Oscar-winning actress Jessica Lange. However, Esther said that she felt that Caitlyn resembled a Jenner relative.
“You know who she reminds me of, my granddaughter Samantha. There is a lot of Sam!”
In previous interviews, Esther has said she was “shocked” by her daughter’s transition, but she vowed to support Caitlyn no matter what.
Jenner will receive the “Arthur Ashe Courage Award” during the 2015 ESPY Awards on July 15, mainly because of the courage it took to undergo such a major change at the age of 65. It has been reported that Caitlyn wants all 10 of her children to be on stage with her as she receives the award. It was not said whether her mother will be there with her or not.
