Brittany Kerr is the former American Idol contestant who was identified in late 2012 as the woman hooking up with married singer Jason Alean, and despite his terming it a “mistake” it seems the two may have kept dating all along.
Kerr was seen backstage at Alean’s concert on Friday, and sources told TMZ that the two are officially a couple.
This news seems to go against Alean’s initial reaction to the affair, when he took to Facebook to make a public apology: “The truth is that I screwed up. I had too much to drink, let the party get out of hand and acted inappropriately at a bar. I left alone, caught the bus to our next show and that’s the end of the story. I ultimately ended up embarrassing my family and myself.”
But Aldean went on to file for divorce in May, and reports say that his relationship with Brittany Kerr started shortly afterward — or even before that.
The relationship, while it seems legitimate, has been called in question given some of Kerr’s actions afterward. Shortly after news of her initial affair broke, there were reports that Kerr was trying to turn her success into a reality show that would follow her attempt to make it big.
Nothing ever came of the reality show, but some have still seen Brittany Kerr as an opportunistic star who failed to capitalize on her American Idol stint.
It is difficult to say whether Kerr and Aldean are dating for real or just looking for a bit of publicity. After all, reports that Jason and his wife were divorcing were once dismissed as a ploy for headlines, and that turned out to be true.
It seems that time will tell if Jason Aldean and Brittany Kerr are dating for real, but it will be telling to see whether decide to do tell-all interviews or instead keep the relationship on the down low.
