Summer’s heat can be pretty brutal, especially on our skin. While there are plenty of ways to stay cool and hydrated, it’s also equally important to protect our skin from UV rays, excessive sweat, dirt, and pore-clogging junk food. Here’s a collection of tips from around the web that’ll keep you looking your best in the hottest months.
The Huffington Post says that eating water-rich foods like watermelon, cucumber, and celery keep your body internally cool and prevent excess sweat. They’re also natural diuretics, so these foods will help you stay slim when it’s bikini time. Also filling up on foods like carrots, tomatoes, and apricots will help block UV rays, as they contain beta-carotene, a natural sunscreen.
And if you are prone to sweat, or simply can’t beat it on a particularly sweltering day, stick to a natural deodorant that’ll allow you to perspire naturally (an essential detox) while still feeling fresh and clean. Conventional antiperspirants block that natural detox and contain harmful aluminum and paraben preservatives.

Night out on the town? Standard Media gives some great tips for making your face pop while looking fresh and healthy. To keep your shadow looking bright and vibrant, try a white base first before applying the color. For whole face brightness, mix a bit of concealer in with your face moisturizer for an even, light coverage that’s perfect for a summer night. How about drying mascara? Adding 1-2 eye drops to the mascara tube first will soften the mascara and make it easy to apply.
For some final summer beauty tips, W magazine asked French model Aymeline Valade about her favorite regime. To help keep her skin clean, Valade says:
“Clean your skin and then rub lemon on your face. Leave it on for five minutes and use rosewater oil to take it off.”
From water-based foods, tinted moisturizer, to lemon juice, these simple but effective tips should keep you fresh, bright-skinned, and beautiful!
Next time you look at someone thinking “I wish I was that pretty,” remember that another person is thinking that same thought about you.
