Season 1 of American Crime Story took audiences by storm as it told the story of O.J. Simpson from a different angle, but there is much more to come. Fans have been waiting for more news on Season 2 which was set to be focused on how Hurricane Katrina devastated New Orleans, but that is no more. Due to a number of unexpected delays, Katrina is being moved back while the second season is now going to focus on Versace .
The original plan for American Crime Story was to follow up the Emmy hit The People vs. O.J. Simpson with Katrina . It was going to air in the early part of 2018 with Season 3 focusing on Versace and airing six months later in the same year. Now, the two seasons are going to end up flipping their seasons which means the traumatic time in New Orleans won’t arrive until late 2018.
According to The Hollywood Reporter , Versace will now air as Season 2 of American Crime Story and feature Penelope Cruz in the lead role. Edgar Ramirez, Darren Criss, and Ricky Martin are also starring in the second season which is being written by Murphy and Tom Rob Smith.
Production on Versace began in Miami just two months ago and it already has the first two episodes completely done.
As for Katrina , it will now air as Season 3 of American Crime Story with production beginning early next year. Dennis Quaid is penciled in as President George W. Bush with Annette Bening and Matthew Broderick also starring in it. Courtney B. Vance, Sarah Paulson, and Cuba Gooding Jr. are also scheduled to return after their success in the first season.
The delays in production for Katrina are due to some scheduling conflicts with the actors as well as the special effects. The Hollywood Reporter states that very in-depth and unique special effects are needed for the water and winds to help mimic the severity and dangers of Hurricane Katrina.
The fourth season of American Crime Story is already planned by Murphy and those behind the first three seasons. While very little is known about Season 4 at this time, it has been revealed that the subject matter will be the Monica Lewinsky scandal.
American Crime Story stole the attention of the fans last year with The People vs. O.J. Simpson and they have been waiting patiently for more. While they still have to wait at least until this year is over, it is great knowing that Ryan Murphy is giving two seasons away in 2018 with Versace airing first and Katrina following it up.
