Amber Tamblyn has been promoted to series regular on Two and a Half Men after appearing in just one episode.
The 30-year-old former House actress was cast as Jenny, the illegitimate bisexual daughter of the late Charlie Harper (Charlie Sheen), who moves from New York to Los Angeles to pursue an acting career. In her first appearance in the season 11 premiere, Jenny reveals herself to Alan (Jon Cryer) and says that Charlie sent her checks every month without telling anyone. She says she only wanted to meet her family and leave, but Alan and his mother Evelyn (Holland Taylor) insist that she stay with them.
Tamblyn’s character was brought in to replace Angus T. Jones, who will no longer be a regular cast member on the series. The season 11 premiere was the first episode not to feature Jones as a main cast member, after CBS announced in April that he would be downgraded to recurring status for the new season.
Jones went on a YouTube rant against the show last November and urged fans to stop watching. He called the show filth and told fans to research the effects of television on the brain. He also said he was a “paid hypocrite” because his religious beliefs conflicted with his job as an actor.
Amber Tamblyn is best known for playing Joan Girardi on Joan of Arcadia for two seasons. The series was nominated for an Emmy in its first season, and won a People’s Choice Awards and the Humanitas Prize. Tamblyn also had a recurring role on House in season 7 and a brief appearance in season 8.
Tamblyn married Arrested Development star David Cross last October. The couple had been dating since 2008, and announced their engagement in August 2011. The wedding took place in a clearing by a river, with Tamblyn arriving by canoe before walking down the aisle.
