Young and the Restless spoilers tease that Graham Bloodworth (Max Shippee) gives up too easily on Monday, October 30 when he lets Jack Abbott (Peter Bergman) and Ashley Abbott (Eileen Davidson) take off with Dina Mergeron (Marla Adams). Jack thinks his threats of prosecuting Graham for fraud got the silver fox to let their mom go, but Graham is five steps ahead of the Abbotts with a devious new doppelganger plot twist that will stun Y&R viewers.
Doppelgangers are classic Y&R schemes
When Mal Young took over as head writer for The Young and the Restless , he told Soap Opera Digest about the changes he has planned. But despite his push for change, Young also said he would honor the legacy of the show, and that means looking back at history. And if there’s one thing Y&R is good at, it’s doppelganger drama. If you’ve been watching the CBS soap for a while, you’ll recall that it’s an honored tradition at the show and has been going on for decades, but not too often.
It was just a few years ago that Marco Annicelli (Peter Bergman) was making trouble on Y&R by pretending to be Jack. He wedded and bedded Phyllis Abbott (Gina Tognoni) and wreaked havoc. You’ll recall that Victor Newman (Eric Braeden) hired the drug runner to sub in while he let Kelly Andrews (Cady McClain) keep Jack prisoner and torment him. That was an exciting story, the effects of which can still be felt today in the tension between Phyllis and Jack over their broken love.

Dina could be getting the Marge-Katherine treatment
Young and the Restless spoilers tease that Dina may be held prisoner just like the 1989 story with Katherine Chancellor (Jeanne Cooper) and her lookalike Marge Cotroke . Back in the day, Marge was a waitress that was trained to replace Katherine while the real Chancellor matriarch was held captive. Marge wrecked Katherine’s relationship with Rex, sold Chancellor Industries, and was ready to seize the rest of Katherine’s fortune until Brock Reynolds saved the day.
This sounds a lot like what’s going on with Graham trying to score Dina’s fortune and would also explain why Graham lets Dina fly back to Genoa City with Ashley and Jack without a fight. Y&R spoilers showed us a big disconnect between Dina’s actions in Genoa City versus Dina’s actions in Florida. There’s also the fact that Graham could have taken Dina anywhere in the world to avoid her family. Why Florida when they could have gone somewhere the Abbotts wouldn’t have found their mom? It’s a scam.

Big sweeps reveal of Dina’s fate
Young and the Restless spoilers from SheKnows Soaps for November sweeps reveal that the Abbotts face big challenges as a family. After Monday, it looks like Dina’s plot will shift to the back seat for at least a week. Soap Central spoilers for Y&R say that Halloween week focuses on the fire at the Underground , which is set by Nick , and that Reed Hellstrom’s (Tristan Lake Leabu) life in danger. Plus, Billy’s accidental poisoning of the masks flares up, but after that simmers down, there’s lots more doppelganger Dina story to come.
Y&R rumors tease that Dina is quite literally not herself. Although there’s no confirmation yet that Jack and Ashley took home a double, Dina’s behavior is erratic. There’s still no confirmation of her Alzheimer’s status and, in fact, Mal Young might have dropped that storyline entirely. Graham might have drugged the real Dina into cooperating, but it doesn’t seem likely that he would trust drugs to keep her doing what he wants once she’s back in Genoa City. A doppelganger is a better guarantee.

Double the drama coming soon to Y&R
Two-faced twists are standard fare for soaps, and Y&R has had some great ones. In addition to lookalikes Marge and Katherine, as well as Marco and Jack, there were secret twins Blade and Richard Bladeson (Michael Tyle) that debuted in 1993. And we can’t forget that Mariah Copeland (Camryn Grimes) was hired by Victor to gaslight Sharon Newman (Sharon Case) starting in 2014, and it was only later revealed that the doppelganger was the real deal and a biological twin to Cassie Newman.
Be sure to watch Monday’s Y&R and read the early recap from Soap Central to see the coming twist. When Graham backed off and let Jack take Dina away, he wished Jack luck and told him that he “would need it,” which was a strange statement at the time. But with a doppelganger twist, that quip makes total sense. If Graham is controlling a fake Dina, the Abbotts will be caught off guard by his scheme.
