Xbox One Reputation System Encourages Gamers To Behave

The Xbox One Reputation System will encourage gamers to behave on Xbox Live.

What is the number one reason a lot of lone wolf gamers give for not wanting to play online? Online gamers in general tend to be annoying and cheat too much. Microsoft is planning to make Xbox Live services for Xbox One work in a way that keeps gamers aware of their Reputation, and lets everybody else see it as well.

We have already reported on The Inquisitr that Xbox Live will keep the trolls separated, but it actually goes further than that. Your Xbox One Reputation won’t just separate you into groups. The Xbox One Reputation System will display your Reputation right up there with your Gamerscore , so if you tend to be a regular troll, other gamers will be more likely to just drop you without warning.

Microsoft will also be planning regular events that encourage gamers to keep their Reputation as nice as possible. Nothing is known yet of how Reputation will come into play with online events. It could be that anything less than a positive Reputation will keep you from winning free prizes like playable demos of unreleased games.

Mike Lavin explains the Reputation system:

“There’ll be very good things that happen to people that just play their games and are good participants. And you’ll start to see some effects if you continue to play bad or, or harass other people en masse. You’ll probably end up starting to play more with other people that are more similar to you.”

The Xbox One Reputation System won’t allow other gamers to destroy your Reputation out of spite, either. Mike Lavin continues:

“The way that it’s built fundamentally stops that. It’s very much over a period of time. If we see consistently that people, for instance, don’t like playing with you, that you’re consistently blocked, that you’re the subject of enforcement actions because you’re sending naked pictures of yourself to people that don’t want naked pictures of you…. Blatant things like that have the ability to quickly reduce your Reputation score.”

Basically, if you behave on Xbox Live, the Xbox One Reputation System will reward you. If you cheat, harass, or just send nudes of yourself to strangers a lot, you could lose out on some of the benefits of being online. Here’s hoping Microsoft will make Reputation hacker proof as well.
