‘WWE SmackDown Live’ Results: John Cena Leaves Dean Ambrose And AJ Styles Laid Out

Published on: September 27, 2016 at 7:29 PM

Less than two weeks before the Triple Threat Match at No Mercy that will feature John Cena, Dean Ambrose and AJ Styles, the WWE World Champion successfully defended his title in a singles match against Dean on WWE SmackDown Live . However, can Cena be blamed for Ambrose’s failure to capture the title from Styles, after John got involved with the finish of the match?

Meanwhile, SmackDown Women’s Champion Becky Lynch was once again attacked by Alexa Bliss, the No. 1 contender for her title at No Mercy . And as the feud between Nikki Bella and Carmella continued to heat up, there’s no doubt that whoever walks away from the PPV as the champion will have plenty of competition waiting for her on SmackDown Live .

While the only other match confirmed for No Mercy prior to this week’s WWE SmackDown Live was the SmackDown Tag Team Championship Match featuring Heath Slater and Rhyno vs. The Usos, Dolph Ziggler was confirmed for a match against The Miz at No Mercy . The Showoff will put his career on the line for one more shot at the WWE Intercontinental Championship.

WWE SmackDown Live Results

The following includes the results of all the matches and segments from SmackDown Live on September 27. This episode of SmackDown aired live from Cleveland, Ohio. Although they came close last week, SmackDown Live hasn’t won the ratings war with Monday Night Raw since the week the blue brand hosted the WWE Draft. With WWE Raw up against the presidential debate, could this be the first week that SmackDown beats Raw in the ratings?

SmackDown Pre-Show On The WWE Network

The regular team of four was back for the half-hour warm-up to SmackDown Live , airing exclusively on the WWE Network. Scott Stanford was joined by three WWE Hall of Famers: Lita, Booker T, and Jerry “The King” Lawler.

A tag team match featuring Nikki Bella and Naomi vs. Carmella and Natalya was announced for SmackDown Live , Baron Corbin joined the panel via Skype for a few questions about being challenged to step up his game by General Manager Daniel Bryan on Talking Smack last week and new WWE correspondent Charly Caruso gave a brief update from backstage in Cleveland.

Randy Orton called out Bray Wyatt

After their match at Backlash was post-poned due to a kayfabe injury suffered by Orton at the hands of Wyatt, The Viper came to the ring and wanted to face Bray Wyatt right then and there. As one might expect, Wyatt responded with another cryptic message played over the TitanTron, introducing an hourglass as a prop and bringing back his patented singing of “He’s Got The Whole World In His Hands.” He indicated that he left “breadcrumbs” that would lead Orton to where the Eater of Worlds was hiding.

The Usos made Heath Slater tap out

In an 8-Man Tag Team Match that also featured American Alpha and the Ascension, The Usos — who came out with new gear and a new entrance theme — forced Heath Slater to tap out, giving the heels the victory in this match. With one episode of SmackDown Live left before No Mercy , Jimmy and Jey currently have the momentum on their side as they head into their SmackDown Tag Team Championship Match.

Carmella pinned Nikki Bella in Women’s Tag Team Match

While Carmella was joined by Natalya and Nikki Bella was joined by Naomi, the Princess of Staten Island ended the tag team match by pinning one half of the Bella Twins. With Becky Lynch defending the SmackDown Women’s Championship against Alexa Bliss at WWE No Mercy 2016 , it is likely that Carmella and Bella will go face-to-face in a non-title match.

Dolph Ziggler’s career vs. The Miz’s title booked for No Mercy

After The Miz started talking disparagingly about Dolph Ziggler in front of The Showoff’s parents in the front row, it wasn’t long before Ziggler made his way to the ring. Requesting one final shot at the WWE Intercontinental Championship, The Miz finally agreed to a put his title on the line at No Mercy when Ziggler agreed to put his career on the line as well. As stipulated by The Miz, if Ziggler loses, he’s gone from WWE SmackDown Live , and can’t show up on Monday Night Raw or NXT . Losing against The Miz means Ziggler will be done for good.

Alexa Bliss attacked Becky Lynch

Just seconds after the SmackDown Women’s Champion stepped out from behind the curtain towards the ring for her match, she was attacked from behind by Alexa Bliss. Becky Lynch defends the title against Bliss at No Mercy .

Randy Orton attacked Bray Wyatt

All throughout SmackDown Live , Randy Orton had been following clues left for him by Bray Wyatt and Erick Rowan. Having successfully avoided Rowan, Orton sneaked up behind Wyatt as he was delivering another cryptic promo. Randy got in a few shots before Bray ran off. The Viper then put on one of Wyatt’s patented sheep masks and left a creepy video of his own on the TitanTron.

John Cena helped AJ Styles defeat Dean Ambrose

With John Cena providing guest commentary during the WWE World Title Match, it wasn’t a big surprise that AJ Styles got in his face. Cena was caught up with the referee while Dean Ambrose had Styles rolled-up for a pin, and consequently (if not inadvertently) distracted the Lunatic Fringe long enough to give the Phenomenal One the opportunity to get a handful of tights and the pin. Post-match, Cena ended up delivering the Attitude Adjustment to both Ambrose and Styles and hoisted the title above his head as SmackDown Live went off the air. Both Cena and Becky Lynch were announced as the scheduled guests for Talking Smack .

Talking Smack On The WWE Network

As usual, Renee Young co-hosted Talking Smack with SmackDown General Manager Daniel Bryan. After briefly discussing the newly-confirmed match between Dolph Ziggler and The Miz for No Mercy , SmackDown Women’s Champion Becky Lynch joined the show. After answering a few general questions about being the champion, she cut a short promo on Alexa Bliss for their match at No Mercy . When John Cena visited the show, he had a very strong response for Dean Ambrose’s claim that he is a “lazy part-timer.”

The above SmackDown Live results will be corroborated by WWE’s official SmackDown Live page.
