The WWE Hell in a Cell 2017 was a comeback PPV for SmackDown after its last PPV, Battleground , was a total disaster. There were some excellent moments during the show this Sunday, but it was still more or less predictable. Jinder Mahal’s reign as WWE Champion continued after he pinned Nakamura cleanly with merely one Khallas finisher.
Jinder Mahal’s reign as the WWE Champion has been a total disaster; even fans from his home country disappointed with his performance. It appears that to improve things for Mahal, WWE opted for a clean finish against Nakamura. It is worth noting that Shinsuke Nakamura has also not lived up to the expectations since his arrival at the main roster.
The latest WWE rumors indicate that the next opponent for Jinder Mahal could be AJ Styles. As reported by IWNErd , Dave Meltzer speculated that AJ Styles would be Mahal’s next challenger, as he could get a good match out of Mahal. It was evident that there was no chemistry between Jinder Mahal and Shinsuke Nakamura. Will it be different with AJ Styles?
Another opponent besides AJ Styles could be John Cena. However, John Cena is not expected to return before Christmas, eliminating him from the race for now. On the other hand, Bobby Roode could come into the title picture, but it is too early for him to be eyeing the WWE Championship. This leaves AJ Styles as the only plausible option at the moment.
Interestingly, AJ Styles lost his U.S. Championship at Hell in a Cell 2017 to Baron Corbin. Styles is expected to invoke the rematch clause sooner than later. However, it is speculated that he might lose the rematch too. It is also rumored that Styles intends to team up with Shane to take on Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn.
AJ Styles is one of the top merchandise sellers on SmackDown Live . It is pretty evident that he has been ignored in the past few months for the likes of Jinder Mahal. Losing the U.S. Championship has freed him from the mid-card matches and given the officials an opportunity to give him the much-deserved push.
As previously reported by the Inquisitr , it is speculated that Jinder Mahal will remain champion until WWE’s tour of India. Does this mean he will defeat AJ Styles too? Well, if that does happen, irrespective of how bad Jinder Mahal’s title reign turns out, he would end up defeating some of the top names in SmackDown Live .
