Vince McMahon, CEO of WWE, put pro wrestling into the mainstream media. He’s responsible for WrestleMania , numerous WWE Hall of Fame wrestlers and ideas that captivated audiences around the world. If not for Vince McMahon, there wouldn’t be a WWE today. The Rock, Stone Cold Steve Austin, Triple H, the Attitude Era, and many other ideas wouldn’t exist.
It’s odd to think of WWE without Vince McMahon, but, unfortunately, it’s inevitable. In a recent interview , Vince McMahon was asked a myriad of questions, one of them on what will happen when he passes away.
“Our future from a corporate standpoint is extremely strong because we have so many talented executives, and they all bring different strengths to the table. Steph and Paul will certainly have significant roles going forward. I think when I kick, the organization is going to change, and I think for the better, because there’s no one person who can do all that I can do because of my background. There’s no one individual who’s going to take my place.”
McMahon, who inherited the stoic behavior of his father, Vince McMahon Sr., was candid with that response. He was also asked who his favorite WWE superstar is, and his answer was the Undertaker. Just like Sting was to WCW, the Undertaker embodies the WWE. He never left and sold out to Eric Bischoff and Ted Turner.
Vince McMahon and the Undertaker stood side-by-side during the Monday Night Wars. As the two came out victorious, the WWE gained more steam and went public. There was always one man who spearheaded the charge into pro-wrestling limelight. McMahon was, and still is, that man.
As a 69-year old genius, he appeared on the cover of Muscle & Fitness . Just by looking at his physique, he is in incredible shape for a man his age. Of course, rumors of a photoshop job came out, but McMahon was always in great shape. He never wrestled more than a handful of matches in a year, but McMahon always was “tough as nails.”
Vince McMahon was right when he said it would get better when he passes away. That’s not to say that he won’t be missed because his death will send a horrific shockwave throughout the WWE Universe, as well as the professional wrestling landscape. Triple H and Stephanie McMahon are ready to take over what their predecessor set up for them. Along with NXT, the WWE Performance Center and the plans put in place for the future, the WWE is in good hands for a long time.
