One of the biggest things everyone is discussing right now is whether or not The Undertaker will be part of WrestleMania 33 next year, and it seems like things are looking up. If you’re an Undertaker fan, you know his last match didn’t need to be, well, his last match. Sure it was inside Hell in a Cell at WrestleMania in Dallas in front of the biggest crowd in WWE history.
However, his opponent was Shane McMahon and the match quality was by no means great. When thinking of the match, you think of the one big Shane jump. This is cool and all, but it is by no means good enough for us to think this match was amazing. It was a bad match to end a career on, especially when the stipulation in the match led us to believe that Undertaker would return.
The rub was that we didn’t know if Undertaker would be able to return to the ring. He is now in his 50s, and he has had numerous injuries in his career. Many believe that it would make total sense for him to retire, considering what all he has done. Despite this, his contract happens to expire next year and the Deadman only needs one more match to complete his current run in WWE. This due to the fact that Taker is contracted for at least one match per year.
It always seemed that The Undertaker may come back, but there has been doubt. Rumors surfaced a little after WrestleMania that he and Vince McMahon were on the outs and not talking. On top of this, Undertaker was seen on crutches, which is now confirmed to have been due to a recent hip surgery. All of this said, uncertainty has been there but hope has also been present as well.
The Wrestling Observer is reporting that it is likely The Undertaker returns by WrestleMania 33 . There is a rumor stating that WWE may want to have he and Goldberg work a match at WrestleMania if they can secure another match with Bill. However, this does seem doubtful. If Undertaker did make his return to the WWE for another match, it most likely would not be against Goldberg, who would more than likely just work another match with Brock Lesnar than with Undertaker anyway.
It is being said that Undertaker has already given a list of names for men he wants to work with, which does certainly mean a return. The one glaring issue right now is the promotion for the show does not yet include the Phenom like it recently has. The current poster does include people like Brock Lesnar and even AJ Styles in promotion, as well as injured WWE Superstar Finn Balor, who has been rumored to return by WrestleMania time.
This very well could be due to WWE not knowing if they can fully rely on Undertaker to return yet. However, we didn’t know for sure that he would work this past WrestleMania until the end of last year as well. Most thought he would even retire completely after his loss to Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania 30 , which ended “the streak.”
In fact, last year at WrestleMania 31 he returned literally at the event and didn’t even do promotion for it before he faced and beat Bray Wyatt. That being said, he very well could do the same this time around as well or we may see him when we used to, a little after The Royal Rumble. Regardless, it does seem like The Undertaker is ready to go and that is never a bad thing near the end of the year to hear.
