For the past few months, the New Day, consisting of Kofi Kingston, Big E, and Xavier Woods, have been the hottest act in WWE. They are not only solid in the ring, though. They are a complete package, cutting creative promos and being funny at the same time. WWE has a history of top talent who were always good at being funny, including big names like The Rock, Chris Jericho, and Edge & Christian, who are probably the tag team that New Day reminds people the most of. Both teams delivered somewhat similar and humorous promos as heels.
New Day is also making strides in being able to move merchandise, with their new unicorn headband already sold out and on back order until January , according to WWE.com . With New Day being the WWE Tag Team Champions and appearing in multiple segments almost weekly on Monday Night Raw , it is safe to say that New Day will be around for quite a while.
Recently, Big E spoke with MLive.com to promote WWE’s December 26 live event at Joe Louis Arena in Detroit. Having been NXT champion back in 2012, he was asked about the developmental promotion and if he was looking at the talent down there.
“I think the three of us tend to look at NXT. I think it’s always important to look at the future of the company. We are excited about giving a younger team an opportunity. There’s a lot of great teams in NXT, but if I had to pick one, I’d say Enzo Amore and Colin Cassady might be the best. I think they’d provide a different rivalry for us.”
It is interesting that Big E brings up Enzo and Cassady. It was just over a week ago that the Inquisitr reported WWE was thinking about bringing Enzo and Cassady up to feud with the New Day. Enzo and Cassady have been a tag team in NXT since July of 2013. They were first portrayed as heels, but over time, the Full Sail NXT crowd warmed up to them, and now they are one of the most popular tag teams down in NXT. Bringing them up to the WWE main roster to feud with the New Day would be great because the New Day is always getting cheered by a portion of the internet wrestling fans, and it would be easy to see that same crowd switch alliances and cheer for the just as charismatic Enzo and “Big” Cass over the New Day.
It is also interesting to note that Enzo and Cass just lost an NXT Tag Team Championship match to Scott Dawson and Dash Wilder at NXT TakeOver: London just last Wednesday. It is possible to think that them losing such a huge match could be an indication that they could make their WWE main roster debut by the beginning of next year, which is just a few weeks away.
Big E was also asked about which WWE superstar he would like to wrestle in a match and hasn’t had a chance to yet.
“I’ve been around long enough for the most part that I’ve wrestled mostly everyone. I haven’t wrestled Big Show yet. I think Brock Lesnar stands out as a big name. If I had to choose one person to wrestle who I haven’t wrestled yet, it would be Brock.”
Despite physically being the biggest member of the New Day, Big E actually has the least amount of experience of the three as a professional wrestler. You can’t ignore the many people who feel he has potential as a main event singles wrestler, considering he has such a unique physique and a lot of ability in the ring. In a lot of ways, he reminds people of a young Mark Henry, and if given a dominant role where he just runs over guys, it could be very easy to believe that he could one day be a suitable opponent for “The Beast” Brock Lesnar.
