WWE did an excellent job of building the feud between Charlotte and Sasha Banks on WWE television. When Charlotte won the WWE Women’s Championship at Wrestlemania 32 , many fans were upset that WWE officials had chosen Charlotte over The Boss, but the natural progression of the Women’s division was always Banks vs. Charlotte at WWE Summerslam.
However, WWE officials decided to give the WWE Universe what they wanted roughly a month early. During the first edition of Raw since the WWE Draft, Sasha Banks defeated Charlotte to become the new WWE Women’s Champion. It has been reported since then the title change happened early because WWE officials wanted Raw to have a big moment to start off the brand split.
On paper, WWE gave away the biggest moment of the Banks vs. Charlotte feud four weeks before the second biggest show of the year. They had a good reason, but they now have to figure out how to keep the momentum going for the feud over the next few weeks and make their rematch at WWE Summerslam something truly special.
It was obvious that Banks vs. Charlotte was happening at WWE Summerslamone way or another. The only dynamic that changed was The Boss would be defending the WWE Women’s Championship instead of Charlotte. However, it was reported by WWE.com that the rematch between the two women is official for the biggest show of the summer with the following statement:
“After a remarkable back-and-forth duel on Raw that left the WWE Universe breathless and resulted in a new torchbearer for the Women’s division, WWE Women’s Champion Sasha Banks and Charlotte are set to do it all over again when they face off in a title rematch at SummerSlam. It was announced on social media that the two Superstars will battle at The Biggest Event of the Summer on Sunday, Aug. 21, reigniting a sensational rivalry that has spanned NXT and WWE.”
The match is official, but the speculation on the winner will continue until the moment a pinfall or submission occurs in the Barclays Center next month in Brooklyn. It’s possible for either Sasha or Charlotte to walk out as the WWE Women’s Champion, but there is a rumor going around that it doesn’t matter who wins at WWE Summerslam , the feud will continue afterward.
According to a rumor from CageSideSeats.com , the feud between Sasha Banks and Charlotte is expected to last on Raw and WWE programming for a few months after WWE Summerslamin August. If that’s the case, it’s possible that the WWE Women’s title could change hands multiple times over the coming months, which makes last week’s Raw a sign of things to come.
WWE officials have a lot of options as far as the feud between these two women goes over the next few months. For example, Dana Brooke is guaranteed to be a factor in some way. There could be a chance for her to get directly involved and make it a triple threat scenario. At WWE Battleground , Bayley debuted on the main roster and set off a chain reaction that led Charlotte to lose the WWE Women’s Championship. Charlotte could blame Bayley as well and get her involved in the feud soon.
The most compelling dynamic of Sasha Banks vs. Charlotte is their feud is truly about who the better wrestler is in the ring. It is also about who is the better choice to lead the WWE Women’s division into the future. Sasha Banks vs. Charlotte becomes even more complex with every new match that is added to the rivalry. WWE Summerslam is set to be the next exciting chapter.
