WWE fans have been chanting CM Punk at live events ever since Phil Brooks left the company after Royal Rumble , but in a recent podcast the wrestler laid down the law for when it’s appropriate to yell out CM Punk. Apparently, rule one is do not yell Phil Brook’s wrestling name when his wife AJ Lee is in the ring.
In a related report by the Inquisitr , Alberto del Rio discussed the day CM Punk walked out on the WWE and although Vince McMahon has apologized Punk rejected the attempts at making peace in the new Colt Cabana Art of Wresting podcast. It also came out that CM Punk may have invented the idea for The Shield , something that should have Roman Reigns, Seth Rollins, and Dean Ambrose happy that they were given such a big push.
When chants of CM Punk spring into the air sometimes it seems to be completely random. But often times it’s the way fans are expressing their opinion of what is happening in the ring. Triple H and Stephanie McMahon were often treated to CM Punk as a way of expressing disapproval, but CM Punk is apparently bothered by the fact that his name is being used when AJ Lee is working the ring as a WWE Diva.
“Does it bother me just because people are randomly chanting ‘CM Punk’? Would that bother anybody? I mean, it’s weird because they do, I think they do it in two cases: They do it when they see Ape, who is my wife, AJ…. They seem to chant my name at her.”
Apparently, CM Punk did not watch any of the recorded WWE matches for three years before he dropped out. As Punk puts it, he “just didn’t have the stomach for it anymore.” But now that his wife continues to wrestle he’s begun to watch again. Unfortunately, what he is seeing is making him uncomfortable.
“I will watch my wife’s stuff. She’ll tell me what segment she is and I’ll watch her stuff. She’s my wife, why wouldn’t I, you know? It’s not easy. It’s not easy seeing and hearing… it makes me feel uncomfortable and I have this anxiety about it but that’s neither here nor there. They seem to chant my name at her. I’ve had a couple people say they think it’s a respect thing to me, but it’s not me, it’s her. Chant her name.”
CM Punk also has an interesting analogy for those who hate the CM Punk chants because some fans say “he abandoned us, don’t chant, he’s a traitor.” To Phil, that’s just weird and he compares it to chasing down a Whole Foods employee who quit his job only to call the poor guy a “traitor.”
Otherwise, Phil laid down the law when it comes to when it’s appropriate to use the CM Punk chants.
“So, yeah, CM Punk chants. I see it, I get it. Don’t chant it at guys that are busting their ass. I will be completely biased and be like ‘you paid a ticket, f***ing chant and do whatever you want. Just don’t chant it at my friends, and just chant it at the guys that f***ing suck and wear lifts in their boots. Covers everybody. We’re done.”
Triple H probably felt the burn at the remark since he supposedly loses a good inch when going barefoot. Of course, even Chris Jericho has used lifts in his boots at one time and they’re supposed to be friends.
Do you think it’s appropriate to use CM Punk chants to cheer on AJ Lee?
