Director Paul Feig recently revealed that he pitched an idea for a Wonder Woman movie to the folks at Warner Bros.
While doing some promotional work for the upcoming home video release of the box office hit The Heat , the filmmaker revealed that he previously tried to get the character on the big screen not too long ago. Unfortunately, the studio decided to pass on his idea.
According to Worst Previews , Paul Feig’s Wonder Woman movie was reportedly pitched as a light action-comedy rather than a full-own superhero epic. The film would have focused on the character’s inability to get along with male superheroes such as Batman and Superman.
Here’s how IGN described the project :
“The idea for Feig’s film would’ve involved a Wonder Woman who “keeps hitting the glass ceiling” of the superhero world. Conceived as a lighter action-comedy, this Princess Diana of Themyscira has to contend with male heroes like Batman and Superman who are perhaps not as forward-thinking regarding their female counterpart as they should be. (I think the word “jerks” might’ve come up.) Feig compared this Wonder Woman to the suffragist Cicely Hamilton (who wrote the 1908 “feminist” play Diana of Dobson’s).”
Although the CW is presently working on a small-screen version of the comic book superhero, Avengers: Age of Ultron director Joss Whedon previously said he thinks Wonder Woman needs her own movie. According to the filmmaker, a TV series simply cannot contain her awesomeness.
“I don’t think she lends herself to television. I think she only works on an epic scale. I saw a bit of the David E. Kelley [pilot]. That was not a good marriage,” Whedon recently explained during an interview with Entertainment Weekly .
