Peyton Manning and Wes Welker make for a very dangerous pairing.
Manning and Welker connected four two touchdowns last night as the Denver Broncos routed the Baltimore Ravens during the opening game of the NFL season.
Manning said: “It was an awesome night… Our offensive line did a heck of a job against a great pass rush, gave me good time.”
Welker isn’t the only receiver on the Broncos that had good hands last night. Manning also tossed a pair of touchdowns to Julius Thomas and Demaryius Thomas. And just for good measure, he threw one more to Andre Caldwell.
In case you’re counting, that’s 7 touchdowns. Peyton Manning threw for 7 touchdowns last night.
Manning is just the sixth player in NFL history to throw 7 touchdowns in a single game. He’s the first person to do it since Joe Kapp did in 1969. Sid Luckman, Adrian Burk, George Blanda and Y.A. Tittle have also notched 7 TDs in a single game.
Manning said : “Baltimore’s got a great defense; we had to be patient. We knew we could get some shots. We were great down in the red zone. That and inside the 30-35, we took some shots, got some space there and our receivers made some big plays.”
Wes Welker was pretty impressive during his Broncos debut but he did drop one important pass. Of course, the officials didn’t see it and either did John Harbaugh.
Harbaugh said : “This is the first I’ve heard of it… That’s something you have to see. It would be nice if NBC would show it, but we didn’t have a chance to look at it.”
