German startup Weblin allows you to “Show your own alter ego in the virtual gaming world to other web users – this is now possible with the brand new, fully animated weblin avatars.”
OK, so that was lost in translation, but I’ll give it a shot. With Weblin you create an avatar that shows your presence on any website you a visiting to other users. The avatars themselves can be customized to show your own genre presence, for example action, role playing or sports games, so you can connect with people who have the same interests.
Weblin is available as a Windows download or you can try Weblin lite if you’re Mac or Linux based. The lite version gives you the ability to type in a page you want to visit then interact like a Windows user but without the plugin.
We’ve seen a number of variations on this theme before, usually comment systems that allow visitors to interact with each other, but I don’t recall a service that offers avatars. I’d never use this and it has absolutely zero appeal to me, but I’m not the target market, Gen Y/ kiddies are the obvious target here and it may find a willing audience.
