Wayne Rooney has set his sights on leaving Manchester United this summer. The English footballer has decided it’s time to take his talents away from Old Trafford as he approached the club a few weeks ago.
His timing was perfect, as Sir Alex Ferguson announced his retirement on Wednesday and the United faithful have been left with questions going into the offseason. David Moyes has been rumored to be the top candidate to replace Sir Alex, though it’s going to be tough for any coach in the world to fill “Fergie’s” shoes.
Rooney approached his retiring manager two weeks ago and asked for a transfer out of Manchester United, though he was told it isn’t going to happen. Now, multiple reports suggest that the star striker will undoubtedly leave the club before next season.
Paris Saint Germain and Bayern Munich have shown interest in Rooney, though the Daily Mail reports that Chelsea are seriously considering bringing in the 27-year-old to upgrade their front.
It’s hard to imagine Wayne Rooney wearing anything other than red, but a move from Old Trafford is becoming more and more likely. Not convinced by Rooney’s request to leave? The Red Devils’ striker removed his title as a “Manchester United forward” from his Twitter page. The account now reads, “@NikeUK athlete.”
To top it off, Rooney would be more than willing to join Chelsea as he told Piers Morgan during a trip to America last July that his best friend in football is Ashley Cole. The two have played together on England’s national team and developed a close friendship over the years.
Chelsea’s move for Wayne Rooney has also been aided by reports that Jose Mourinho will make his return to Stamford Bridge. The current Real Madrid manager is expected to be welcomed back to Chelsea in hopes of returning the club to it’s former glory.
Rooney’s exit from Manchester United has been fueled by his lack of time on the pitch in 2013. Who can blame him, as he is considered one of England’s premier strikers and has 198 goals in 359 matches with United.
Do you believe Wayne Rooney is on his way out of Manchester United after nine seasons with the club?
