NASCAR fans and drivers alike will be glad to return to a week of left-turn only in tonight’s Quaker State 400 after last week’s race at Sonoma’s curvy road course. Carl Edwards won last week, but is starting back in the 23rd position today. Last week’s runner up and the 2014 Sprint Cup points leader, Jeff Gordon fared better in the qualifying round and will be starting third.
Brad Keselowski will be starting today’s race at the pole position, with Joey Logano lines up next to him in the two position.. Lining up next to Jeff Gordon in the fourth position is Denny Hamlin. Kevin Harvick and Kyle Larson round out the first three rows.
Danica Patrick will start in the tenth position. Danica is still looking for her first NASCAR victory , though she has shown strong finishes in recent weeks, seeming to mature from a driver who was afraid she would crash to one who has contended in most races and finished in the top five once.
Other notables include Dale Earnhardt Jr., starting in the 29th position, Tony Stewart, starting in the 13th position, Jimmie Johnson, starting in the 25th position, and Kurt Busch, starting in the ninth position.

Today’s race will be the fourth time the NASCAR Quaker State 400 has been run at Kentucky Speedway. Previous winners include Kyle Busch, Brad Keselowski, and Matt Kenseth, according to a report in Racing Nation .
Notable drivers who have not taken the checkered flag yet in this year’s Sprint Cup series include Matt Kenseth (fourth in points standings), Ryan Newman (eighth in points standings, starting seventh today), and Paul Menard (12th in points, starting 12th).
With most of the pack having never won at Kentucky Speedway, look for an exciting race with most of the drivers feeling like they have something to prove. In particular, look for Hendrick Motorsport’s stable of drivers, who have yet to make it to victory lane in Sparta, Kentucky.
