A half-day of testimony is expected on Friday, January 30, with the trial resuming on Monday, February 2, just one day after the New England Patriots play in Super Bowl XLIX .

Jurors are expected to tour the scene of the crime and Aaron’s Attleboro home on Monday, with the Portland Press Herald reporting that jurors will be able to see a trophy case inside his home, despite the fact that the prosecution wanted them covered up. Fall River Superior Court Justice Susan Garsh rejected a request to shield the trophies from jurors’ view earlier in the month, stating that she wants the house shown “exactly the way it was at the time of Odin Lloyd’s death.”

On Thursday, both the defense and the prosecution gave their opening statements. ESPN reports that District Attorney Patrick Bomberg told jurors about the events that he believes led up to Odin Lloyd’s murder and presented what he states is evidence that Hernandez was at the scene of the crime.

“He [Bomberg] said a marijuana joint found near Lloyd’s body had Hernandez’s and Lloyd’s DNA. Hernandez’s DNA was also on a shell casing from a bullet found under the driver’s seat of the rental car… He told jurors that the casing was fired by the same weapon as casings found at the crime scene: a.45-caliber Glock.”

Hernandez’s lawyer, Michael Fee, told the jury that police and prosecutors “locked in” on the NFL player as a suspect and did a “sloppy and unprofessional” investigation. He claims that Aaron had no motive to kill and did not ask anyone to murder Odin, who he referred to as “Aaron’s friend” several times during his opening statement.

“Aaron never had a chance. They locked on Aaron and they targeted him. The investigation was sloppy and unprofessional. What about the facts that showed Aaron’s innocence? The evidence will show that they were ignored.”

The trial is expected to last as long as 10 weeks. For more information about the Hernandez case, SB Nation has a timeline of events leading up to the former New England Patriots player’s arrest. On January 30, CNN is broadcasting a documentary about Aaron Hernandez Downward Spiral: The Case Against Aaron Hernandez — starting at 9 p.m. ET.
