The release of the new movie Trainwreck served as a coming out party for Amy Schumer, but she wasn’t the only one. Trainwreck gave us a chance to watch LeBron James take his talents to the big screen , leaving fans loving every minute of him. James proved that he has acting skills from the first minute that he was in Trainwreck. Poor James just wanted to catch the new episode of Downton Abbey with Trainwreck co-star Bill Hader.
While James may currently be the best basketball player on the planet, he showed viewers some serious acting ability during Trainwreck . What makes his role even more interesting is how he actually ended up in Trainwreck to start with. According to MTV News, there simply was no other option aside from James when it came to the role in Trainwreck .
“I just wrote him in the script because he’s the only basketball player that I’ve ever heard of and it’s a good thing that he said yes,” Schumer told MTV News . “I don’t know who would have done it.”
While the Trainwreck star is pretty hilarious, she probably did not say that as a joke. James’ addition to the Trainwreck cast apparently came when Hader and director Judd Apatow gave him a strong pitch.
“He thought it was really funny, he thought it was great,” Hader said. “The last week of shooting was all the LeBron stuff, and we were just kind of convinced this isn’t gonna work out. We were shooting the movie for months, just going LeBron is never gonna — something is going to happen and he can’t do it, which would make total sense.”
Fortunately, Hader, Apatow, and the cast of Trainwreck didn’t need to worry, as James was ready to step up to the plate and deliver a stellar performance. For those who haven’t seen Trainwreck yet, James plays the best friend of Hader and his role is actually much larger than you’d probably assume.
Many reviews had strong things to say about James in Trainwreck , one specifically coming from Business Insider , who called James a “ really good actor .”
For those who love James and the Cleveland Cavaliers, you probably loved seeing your favorite player in Trainwreck . For those who are in the anti-LeBron club, be careful, because his performance in Trainwreck may very well start to sway your opinion on him.
Trainwreck came out (officially) on July 17, so make sure to catch Schumer, Hader, and of course James in the new comedy.
