Tony Gonzalez is retiring, maybe. The Atlanta Falcons Tight End was “95% sure” that he would retire before the start of the 2013 season but it looks like Gonzalez is wavering on that decision.
According to SB Nation , the future Hall of Famer may want to make one more Super Bowl run.
ESPN’s Ed Werder said on SportsCenter:
“I’m told virtually everyone in the Falcons’ organization has been campaigning for Gonzalez to make one more Super Bowl run. And I’m told that he’s beginning to waver. The people who have spoken to him seem to believe that they’re making progress. In fact, one player close to Gonzalez told me ‘I think, if the circumstances are right, that Tony Gonzalez will return.’”
Of course, Tony Gonzalez “wavering” could mean a lot of different things. Maybe he’s just daydreaming about winning a Super Bowl. Maybe he’s just having second thoughts. General manager Thomas Dimitroff said that Gonzalez is now 50/50 on his decision.
“Tony has done so much for us on and off the field and I don’t believe, not stating that he would be lying to anyone, but I don’t believe the 95 percent … I want to believe it’s a lot closer to 50/50, to be honest with you, and we’ve had discussions.”
Gonzalez will be 37 during the 2013 season but he proved in 2012 that he isn’t too old to play. Gonzalez earned his 13th Pro Bowl selection last year after grabbing 93 passes for 930 yards and 8 touchdowns.
Do you think Tony Gonzalez should retire?
