Tomb Raider Movie Reboot To Work Alongside Video Game

Tomb Raider is getting rebooted in the video game and movie markets, and apparently the two will work together in some way. The series, which centers around Lara Croft, had seemingly gone quite stale over the last few years. Now the newest version of the video game is set to launch tomorrow morning.

The newest version of the movie may be quite a bit farther away, but fans of the series can take heart that, if they like the console version of Lara, they will most likely enjoy the newest movie as well. Comicbookmovie.com reports that Crystal Dynamics’ Darrell Gallagher shed some light on what the movie will entail.

Gallagher said that the Tomb Raider movie will closely mirror that of the video game by starting off with a younger and less sure of herself adventurer. The old Lara Croft (played by Angelina Jolie) was depicted as someone who had already mastered all the skills she needed to survive.

One of the aspects that has the critics buzzing about the game is how much learning your character has to go through when you first start playing. Gallagher was quite happy to hear that the movie was going to be depicting Croft in the same way that the video game was saying:

“It’s a good partnership. We’re seeing the challenges through the same lens. It was important for both of us to have a cohesive version of the franchise. We didn’t want to see a film version that was a continuation of the old Tomb Raider films.”

Graham King, who is producing the movie, told IGN.com that the newest movie will be more of a character piece than the movies in the previous series. The Tomb Raider movie reboot is in good hands with Iron Man ‘s Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby writing the script.
