Although Tom Hanks has tackled just about every major genre in Hollywood, the award-winning actor recently revealed that he wants in on an upcoming comic book movie.

Despite his best efforts, the Captain Phillips star hasn’t landed a part in a superhero flick just yet. During his recent chat with Showbiz411 , Hanks said he’s been itching to get involved with one of these films for quite some time now.

“They don’t ask me. I keep trying. Come on, I can do it. I can do it. Even let me play a bad guy, let me play the bad guy against Batman. I’ll do anything, call me. They’ve never asked. What do I gotta do? God, I want to throw a shield at somebody. I want that,” he said.

Producers interested in casting Tom Hanks as the person in charge who tells the young superheroes what to do shouldn’t waste their breath. The actor apparently doesn’t want a throwaway role — he wants to put on a costume and get down to business.

The Forrest Gump star added:

“I don’t want to play the guy in the suit who tells the superheroes what’s going on, I don’t want to be that guy. ‘Well, you know Batman, Captain America, Iron Man, here’s what we’ve discovered.’ I don’t want to be that guy. I want to get in there, I want to play The Flash or something like that. They’ll never give me a chance.”

Considering Hanks is a very gifted and talented actor, it’s a little surprising that a studio couldn’t find a role for the guy to play. Since he’s now sharing his interest in the superhero genre with the entire world, perhaps he will finally get a chance to star in something that allows him to throw something cool at a bad guy

The actor’s most recent effort, the Paul Greengrass thriller Captain Phillips , is in theaters right now. Check out the trailer for the flick below.
