Dylan Hayes isn’t a superhero, but he may as well be. The preschooler fell from a third-story apartment window, did two somersaults in the air, and landed on his feet.
The four-year-old suffered no injuries from his fall.
Jessica Hayes was rearranging furniture so she could shampoo her carpets, according to CBS News . She had reportedly moved her couch from its usual spot to under the third-floor apartment’s window. Four-year-old Dylan clambered up onto the couch, leaning on the screen to talk to a neighbor walking below.
The screen gave way, and the little boy tumbled out the window. He allegedly somersaulted to the ground , landing on his little feet in the gravel below.
“My mom was cleaning our fridge out, and all of a sudden I hear her screaming, ‘Dylan just went out the window!’” Jessica recalls. A neighbor outside told local news that she heard a crash and “saw a blur,” as the boy tumbled downwards.
“I was terrified,” Jessica said. “I didn’t know what I was going to see when I got down to the ground floor.”
What she found was a mangled window screen — and her son standing. He was taken to the hospital, where he stayed for 20 hours wearing a precautionary neck brace. He was released with no sign of injury.
Little Dylan described the experience to local news : “I falled — really, really far.”
Dylan and his mother reside in Aurora, Colorado. They are currently staying with friends until they can find a first-floor apartment. Jessica Hayes says she hopes Dylan’s accident will serve as a warning for other parents with young children.
“I wish the danger would have crossed my mind , but it didn’t” Jessica told local news. “It’s gotten easier since it happened not to blame myself.”
