Three newborn babies were found dead in a family’s freezer in Poland. Lucyne D., age 41, has reportedly confessed to murdering her three newborn sons and storing them in the freezer.

Investigators and medical examiners are working together to determine if the babies were born alive and their cause of death. If convicted of homicide, Lucyna could face a sentence of life in prison.

As reported by the Huffington Post , neighbors became suspicious as everyone knew Lucyna was previously pregnant, but they never saw her baby. They reported their concerns to authorities.

Police in Lubawa, Poland questioned Lucyna and her husband about the neighbors’ suspicions. A search of the home eventually revealed three dead babies in the family’s freezer.

As reported by WLOS.com , Lucyna admitted killing the babies and stated that she kept them in the freezer as she “could not part from them.” Lucyna’s husband has also been arrested and is being questioned in connection with the newborn deaths.

Lucyna and her husband are the parents of four surviving children between the ages of 6 and 22.

Last month, parents in Toledo, Ohio were convicted of a similar crime. Antonio Cervantes, age 18, and Kenisha Pruitt , age 20, were both convicted in the death of their infant son. The parents were accused of drowning and strangling their infant son before placing him in the freezer.

The couple reportedly vacated their residence, leaving the corpse in the freezer. Their landlord discovered the baby and alerted police.

As reported by The Toledo Blade , Pruitt entered a guilty plea for charges of aggravated murder and was sentenced to 20 years to life in prison. Cervantes plead guilty to involuntary manslaughter and will be sentenced later this month.

Studies published by PMC reveal that a majority of mothers who kill infants suffer from depression or other mental illness. Parents may also kill their infant as the result of abuse or neglect, spousal revenge, a psychotic episode, or a misconception that the child will be better off dead.

Lucyna has not revealed a motivation for killing her three babies and storing them in the freezer. Polish authorities continue to investigate the details of the heinous discovery.
