During the entire screening of Season 5 of AMC’s The Walking Dead , fans were terrified Glenn Rhee (played by Steven Yeun) was about to die due to persistent rumors and a comic book storyline that indicated as much. However, Glenn survived Season 5 and now he is filming Season 6 of The Walking Dead — still amid rumors he won’t survive this season.
Over the years, Glenn has had some pretty interesting run ins with zombies, or walkers, as they are referred to in The Walking Dead . Fan favorites include the bloated walker-in-the-well, the I-came-for-a-pregnancy-test walker, the duct-tape-eating walker and the zombie Glenn mutilated in order to obtain an engagement ring for his girlfriend, Maggie Greene (played by Lauren Cohen). But what exactly makes a “good” zombie in The Walking Dead ? According to Steven Yeun, it is one that never gives up, an actor who gets so into character that he has to tell them to stop before they will relent, he recently told AMC in an interview.
“What makes a good walker is someone who’s all in. There are walkers on the shows who just continue to come at you. They just stay in the character and you’re just like, ‘OK stop!’ Staying in character is a huge part of making a good walker.”
Steven was recently a judge on the The Walking Dead Zombie Audition in L.A., so he should know. But, just for the record, here’s what a Walking Dead zombie audition really looks like:
But what scares Steven Yeun more than fighting walkers in The Walking Dead ? Apparently ghosts are scarier than zombies any day and Steven explains why to AMC.
“Anything I can punch in the face is not nearly as scary as something where my fist would go through.”
He even claims to have seen a ghost once during a sleep paralysis episode , seeing a dark figure in the doorway laughing at him. While he does admit it could have been a dream, it was scary enough for him to consider the possibility that ghosts are real. As well as this incident, he has also stayed in places that were reportedly haunted.
“There were a bunch of church retreats I’ve gone on with cabins that were definitely haunted. I can’t even describe it because I’ve sort of erased it from my memory.”
