Even though Shailene Woodley’s sudden departure from The Amazing Spider-Man 2 was a bummer, she still has other promising projects up her sleeve. While it will be a while since we see her in the blockbuster film Divergent , we have The Spectacular Now to look forward to.

The Spectacular Now stars Miles Teller, who was fantastic in Rabbit Hole . Alongside the actor is Shailene Woodley, who stars opposite Teller as a seemingly innocent girl that has his interest. Throw in Smashed director James Ponsoldt, who seriously impressed us by creating a truthful portrait on alcoholism, and you have the perfect ingredients for a very promising film.

The Spectacular Now , which is an adaptation of the novel by Tim Tharp is described as follows:

“Sutter Keely (Miles Teller) lives in the now. It’s a good place for him. A high school senior, charming and self-possessed, he’s the life of the party, loves his job at a men’s clothing store, and has no plans for the future. A budding alcoholic, he’s never far from his supersized, whisky-fortified Thirst Master cup. But after being dumped by his girlfriend, Sutter gets drunk and wakes up on a lawn with Aimee Finicky (Shailene Woodley) hovering over him. She’s different: the “nice girl” who reads science fiction and doesn’t have a boyfriend. While Aimee has dreams of a future, Sutter lives in the impressive delusion of a spectacular now, yet somehow, they’re drawn together.”

Not only does the synopsis make the movie sound incredibly appealing but the script was adapted by 500 Days of Summer’s Scott Neustadter and Michael H. Weber. 500 Days of Summer proved to be a hit amongst both audiences and critics, and also received a bit of attention during awards season. The Spectacular Now made its own impressive debut at the Sundance Film Festival with an 82 out of 100 metascore from metacritic .

Will you be seeing The Spectacular Now when it releases into theaters on August 2?
