Brad Bird, director of The Incredibles , still wants a sequel.
Remember back when superhero movies weren’t everywhere yet? The genre was still relatively new and the potential hadn’t been really tapped yet. That was about when The Incredibles came in, Disney and Pixar’s take on the superhero franchise that basically took Fantastic Four and rewrote it, making it funny and entertaining.
Are you wondering how we came to the conclusion that The Incredibles and Fantastic Four are the same thing? Mr. Incredible is just like The Thing, Elastigirl is just like Mr. Fantastic (barring the gender difference), Violet is just like the Invisible Woman, and Dash has the same reckless attitude as the Human Torch. Aside from the baby, the two teams are practically the same. That’s not to say The Incredibles wasn’t a great film, because it was actually better than Fantastic Four .
Brad Bird has mentioned before that he would like to do a sequel to The Incredibles , but he’s just holding out until he sees a script that he deems worthy, or better than the original. Brad Bird doesn’t want to have a lackluster sequel like Disney tends to make for all of their animated films. Of course, he doesn’t want to make a huge letdown sequel like that other film.
The Incredibles director has stated:
“People think that I have not been, but I have. Because I love those characters and love that world. I am stroking my chin and scratching my head . I have many, many elements that I think would work really well in another film, and if I can get ’em to click all together, I would probably wanna do that. … I have many different films I wanna make. It’s like a big airplane hangar and I have different projects on the floor; half-assembled in my brain. I’m interested in all of them. You kind of have to move on the ones people are willing to pay for and the ones you’re most excited about.”
Brad Bird may be a busy man and like it that way, but he still wants to make a sequel to his animated superhero film.
Would you like to see a sequel to The Incredibles , or should Brad Bird just leave it as is?
