It’s a great day for fans of The Hunger Games as Lionsgate has announced that the trailer for The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 , the third film in the four film Hunger Games franchise, will be released in five days.
The teaser for the trailer, which featured a voiceover by Donald Sutherland as President Snow, shows Hunger Games star Jennifer Lawrence as Katniss Everdeen as she discovers a white rose left for her in her Victor’s Village home in District 12, which in the Mockingjay book has been left standing by the Capitol on purpose to taunt Katniss. The rest of District 12 is destroyed.
“Miss Everdeen, it’s the things we love most that destroy us,” says Snow, presumably taunting Katniss with the fact that he holds captive fellow District 12 victor Peeta Mellark after the events in The Hunger Games: Catching Fire.
In addition to the trailer announcement, a new poster featuring Katniss Everdeen was released, finally giving fans a face front view of the girl on fire.
The poster is the first and only Mockingjay poster so far to feature the face of Katniss as the Mockingjay, the figure and leader of the rebellion in District 13. A previous poster for The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 , released just last week , featured a back view of Katniss. The theme of the poster caused many on the internet to dub the poster ‘Batniss.’
In addition to a trailer on Monday, Lionsgate will be releasing issue 2 of their online webzine at TheHungerGamesExclusive.com , featuring behind the scenes images and interviews. In Mockingjay , Katniss is compelled to lead a nationwide rebellion against the Capitol at the young age of seventeen, with her best friend Gale Hawthorne by her side. Thrust into the political arena when she was only sixteen, when she volunteered to take her sister’s place in the 74th Hunger Games, Katniss must navigate through not only the perils of the Capitol, but the dangers of District 13 and the watchful eye of President Coin, played by Julianne Moore.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly , director Francis Lawrence stated that there would be more President Coin present in The Hunger Games: Mockingjay and that Coin had “developed into something pretty amazing.”
The tagline, “The courage of one will change the world” is also new, with previous taglines for Mockingjay including “Fire burns brighter in the darkness” and “I am. I will.”
What do you think of the final poster and are you excited for the trailer coming on Monday?
