The Hobbit Desolation Of Smaug is in full PR gear, almost ten days ahead of its December 13 release and now we finally know what the dragon looks like, on a plane.

The unusual unveiling, as has become director Peter Jackson’s style, came when a new plane for the Air New Zealand fleet showed the creature in all its glory.

Smaug, the Dragon, who is voiced by British thespian Benedict Cumberbatch ( The Fifth Estate, Star Trek Into Darkness ), has been an extremely close guarded secret since The Hobbit An Unexpected Journey gave us just a tiny peak last December.

But in true shocking style, the evil one, who destroys so many lives in the story, is now plastered on an Air New Zealand Boeing 777-300ER, which is currently traveling from Auckland, in the island nation, to Los Angeles, just in time for the world premiere festivities.

The airline has released a time-lapse video of how the The Hobbit character was carefully put on the plane, much as they did with the characters in the first installment last year.

Desolation Of Smaug is the second installment in the Peter Jackson trilogy and continues the story of Bilbo Baggins (Martin Freeman), the hobbbit, who joins the company of dwarves led by Thorin Oakenshield (Richard Armitage) and the Wizard, Gandalf (Ian McKellen) in their quest to reclaim their long lost home, Erebor.

The Dragon Smaug is one of he most intriguing characters in the new film and every time there is a new trailer or clip a little more is revealed.

As the cast and crew gathers in Los Angeles to do the press junket for The Hobbit Desolation of Smaug we will get to hear all about this new great film and what is in store for Bilbo and his friends.

We will also be introduced to some new characters that were not part of The Hobbit An Unexpected Journey such as Tauriel (Evangeline Lily), Legolas, who returns from The Lord of The Rings trilogy ( Orlando Bloom ), Bard the Bowman (Luke Evans), Thranduil (Lee Pace).
