As has been teased for some time now, The Flash Season 2 is heading over to Earth 2, which, up until now, has only been seen briefly here and there. However, now, instead of just hearing about how things are different there, a couple of people are going to get to experience it.
In the latest Flash episode, Harry did what Zoom wanted him to do: find a way to steal Barry’s speed. He designed a device that he put inside his suit. While there was at first a difference in Barry’s speed, it wasn’t until Caitlin noticed that he was moving 2 percent slower than he should have been that Harry admitted what he had done.
Harry’s lucky that Joe only punched him before throwing him into the pipeline, leading to a very familiar scene for Barry: facing off against a Harrison Wells and wondering why. As Harry reminded him, he had told him he’d betray him for his daughter, that he’d always choose her. He suggested they just send him home, close the breaches, and leave the fight with Zoom to him, but instead, Barry decide that they’d go to Earth 2 with him.
Following the episode, the CW released a trailer for the next Flash episode, “Welcome to Earth-2.”
As it begins, Jay warns Barry, “You’re going to see things that look and feel familiar, but they’re not. Do not let yourself get sucked in emotionally.”
(That probably means taking time for a selfie isn’t the best idea.)
The promo offers a look at a few Earth 2 counterparts, including Caitlin’s Killer Frost and Ronnie’s Deathstorm, as well as Earth 2 Iris and Earth 2 Barry. Plus, what’s going to happen on their home Earth in the meantime?
TV Insider spoke to executive producer Andrew Kreisberg to find out what to expect from this trip to Earth 2 , and he teased that “there are doppelgangers galore.”
“Some people who are no longer with us are alive over there, some people who are good are bad there and vice versa,” he previewed.
For example, as has already been revealed, Caitlin and Ronnie are the villains Killer Frost and Deathstorm, or as Kreisberg calls them, the “metahuman Bonnie and Clyde.” He likened Killer Frost to Buffy the Vampire Slayer’s vampire Willow.
But just because The Flash Season 2 is taking a trip over to Earth 2 doesn’t mean that Earth 1 (well, depending on the person’s perspective) isn’t going to have its own problems. The EP teased “a crisis” there as well.
As the promo (above) shows, Earth 1 needs a Flash too, and in fact, getting back his speed is Jay’s (seemingly) only hope to stay alive. As he revealed to Caitlin, he found his Earth 1 counterpart in Hunter Zolomon, who had been adopted after his mother died in childbirth. Since Jay’s DNA was mutated when he became a speedster, the only way to save him is to stop Zoom and get his speed back.
Kreisberg told TVLine that Caitlin refuses to “let history repeat itself” with Jay after she lost Ronnie – especially since with Jay, it’s rooted in biochemistry.
“Instead of being a victim of fate, she is now in the driver’s seat, and that creates a very different dynamic for her. It definitely lets her shine, while also showing a vulnerability to Jay. It’s always hard to see your heroes be weak, and in some ways it’s harder for the hero themselves, to need to be saved.”
In fact, the synopsis for Episode 14 , “Escape from Earth-2,” as posted by ComicBook.com , teases that she “rushes to perfect Velocity-9” so that he can stop the metahuman that first attacks Central City in next week’s episode.
The Flash Season 2 airs Tuesdays at 8 p.m. on the CW.
