Despite his death at the beginning of The Flash’s second season, fans will see Robbie Amell (cousin to Arrow star Stephen Amell ) return to the series at some point this season. The only difference is he won’t be playing Firestorm this time around.
Back in October, Amell hinted that he would reprise his role in the hit series. While this news was welcomed by many, it also left fans wondering how the series planned to bring the character back to life.
According to Collider , there are many different ways the show could bring Amell’s character back. These methods of resurrection include the Lazarus pit, time travel, black magic, and even parallel universes. Which method will writers use to resurrect Ronnie? And, will it have unintended consequences for Barry Allen and company?
Luckily, producer Andrew Kreisberg answered some of these questions in a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly . Apparently, Ronnie will be brought back to life via Earth-Two, only his twin from another world doesn’t exactly share Ronnie’s good qualities.
“We are beyond excited to have Robbie back on The Flash . You can’t keep a good Firestorm down. Only this time, he’s back with a twist, a deadly Earth-Two version of our beloved Ronnie in the form of Deathstorm,” Kreisberg explained in the interview.
According to Cinema Blend , Deathstorm was introduced in the comics during the “Blackest Night” run. In the comics, the character was created after Ronnie died and was resurrected as the Black Lantern. He still had all of the powers of Firestorm but had an evil nature.
If The Flashfollows the comic storyline, then fans could be set for a little more mythology based on the Green Lantern. This would certainly be an interesting development and would go a long ways in satisfying the show’s dedicated fanbase.
That being said, it is not known how close the series will follow the events in the comics. Based on Kreisberg’s comments, however, fans can expect Deathstorm to be the complete opposite of Firestorm. Further, it was recently revealed on the show that Caitlin Snow of Earth-Two is Killer Frost. Caitlin and the new Ronnie are expected to join forces, which should keep Barry and his team plenty busy when they make a visit to Earth-Two.
While Amell will be returning as Deathstorm, the ultimate fate of Firestorm is still unknown. Although the character was seemingly killed at the beginning of Season 2, there is a possibility that he survived the singularity. Is it possible that he was simply teleported to a different world? If that is the case, will he make a return this season to fight off Deathstorm?
Aside from the exciting news that Amell will be making his way back to The Flash , Zap2it is reporting that another crossover episode may be in the works between Arrow and The Flash . While producers have yet to announce anything, David Ramsey, who plays John Diggle on Arrow , recently hinted of potential crossover on social media.
Ramsey posted an image on Instagramof himself standing next to the writer’s room for The Flash.
“Made a visit to #theflash writers room..” he wrote alongside the image. “Can only mean one thing.. #arrow&theflash.”
At this point, it isn’t clear if Ramsey was just joking or if he was serious about another crossover. Until producers release more information, fans can only hope that Ramsey wasn’t joking. The Flash and Arrow have already included two crossover episodes this season, making a third crossover episode less likely, but still a possibility.
The mid-season premiere of The Flash is set to premiere January 19 on The CW.
