Season 2 of The Flash has only had three episodes thus far, with the fourth episode airing tomorrow night on The CW; and, a lot more of what will happen this season is already being discussed. Many character returns are already being talked about. A new and unlikely ally is definitely coming to Central City, and rumor has it that it could be one of two people. One possibility is that Dr. Harrison Wells of Earth-Two could partner up with Barry. The other rumored hero is Tom Welling’s Superman from Smallville finally showing up.
Yes, the discussion is still out there and many aren’t sure what is going to happen. There are a total of 20 episodes in Season 2 of The Flash , and they are scheduled to air through the middle of April. That includes a month-long break from mid-February to mid-March.
Much can happen in the remaining 17 episodes, but will Superman really show up? Let’s take a look at the possibilities.
Fashion Style reported that a new ally is going to side with Barry Allen at some point in Season 2, and it’s expected to happen in Episode 6. A synopsis has now been released for the episode titled, “Enter Zoom,” and it makes it appear as if Wells is part of Barry’s plan to defeat Zoom.
“BARRY COMES UP WITH A PLAN TO DEFEAT ZOOM — After recent events, Barry (Grant Gustin) decides it’s time to confront Zoom and comes up with a dangerous plan. Caitlin (Danielle Panabaker) sides with Jay (guest star Teddy Sears) and deems it too dangerous for Barry to engage with the speed demon. However, Iris (Candice Patton) shows her support and brings forth a surprising ally. We see what Earth-2 Harrison Wells’ (Tom Cavanagh) life was like before coming through the breach. JJ Makaro directed the episode written by Gabrielle Stanton & Brooke Eikmeier (#206). Original airdate 11/10/2015.”
Iris is bringing forth a surprising ally, but with two more episodes to go until “Enter Zoom,” who will it be?
This makes sense as the Harrison Wells (Tom Cavanagh) from Earth-Two is different from the one who betrayed Barry. Jay Garrick and Caitlin Snowbelieve Barry’s life is in danger if he tries to take on Zoom by himself, and those conditions could bring about Wells.
Maybe this isn’t the case, though.
It is now known that Gorilla Grodd is returning this season, and The Wrap states that Caitlin could end up playing the role of “Fay Wray” to Grodd’s “King Kong.” This may end up being a bit too much for Barry to take on and he may need more strength than what his super speed can handle.
Such a scenario might also be too much for Wells. In that case, Barry would need some brute force. He’d need some strength — some super strength.
This could be when Tom Welling’s Superman from Smallvillesteps in and the rumors end up coming true. If this crossover really happens, it’s going to be something that many fans have been hoping for a long time.
It all started back in February of this year, when rumors started flying around (no pun intended) that Superman could be in a parallel universe to Central City on Earth-One. In the trailer for Supergirl , her cousin Superman was even mentioned numerous times, so the crossover possibility exists there, too.
Greg Berlanti, one of the creators of The Flash , says that Supergirl ending up somewhere on his show or on Arrow may not happen anytime soon.
“I would love to see a crossover. But the network [CBS] has said publicly at this point they’re going to keep Supergirl to themselves.”
Still, that doesn’t rule out that Superman could show up on The Flash and he could be played by Tom Welling. There is also the fact that The Daily Planet from Smallville can be seen in an extended trailer for The Flash that was released by The CW last year.
The above still is not photoshopped in any way, and it can be seen at the 5:07 mark in the trailer here.
For now, this is all speculation, but there are so many little things that lead to the possibility of Tom Welling’s Superman from Smallville showing up in Season 2 of The Flash . Maybe Harrison Wells of Earth-Two will be able to help Barry against Grodd and Zoom, but some extra strength really would be a super help.
