The Bling Ring earned a tidy sum of cash at the box office over the weekend.

Director Sofia Coppola’s flick tells the story of several teenagers who robbed celebrities after looking up their addresses on the internet. After making an impressive amount of money in only a handful of theaters, the flick enjoyed even more success after opening in more cinemas.

The Bling Ring may be playing in only 650 theaters at the moment, but this hasn’t stopped the flick from finding an audience. According to the numbers posted at Box Office Mojo , Coppola’s drama earned an impressive $2 million from curious moviegoers.

This number may not seem like a lot when compared to the $82 million generated by Monsters University (4,004 theaters) or the $66 million scared up by the Brad Pitt zombie flick World War Z (3,607 theaters). However, earning $2 million from just 650 screens is an impressive feat.

When The Bling Ring opened in theaters on June 14, it was only shown in a total of five theaters. Despite this number, the movie ended up bringing home around $210,000. Distributor A24 was understandably excited about the accomplishment.

The company said in an official statement:

Sofia Coppola’s latest and greatest has certainly entered the zeitgeist and we look forward to capitalizing on this great success as we expand nationwide next weekend. It is the highest opening for a Sofia Coppola film since ‘Lost in Translation’ and played to sold-out crowds in NY and LA on Friday and Saturday with the highest per screen average of the weekend.

Emma Watson , Leslie Mann, and Taissa Farmiga star in Sofia Coppola’s big-screen version of the story. In order to prepare for her role in the flick, the Harry Potter alum said she spent a lot of time watching American reality television.

“I just watched a ton of reality TV. I was doing an English course [at Brown University]. So I would go from reading Virginia Woolf to [watching] Kim Kardashian. I kind of loved it, this mix of super-high and super-low culture. I think it was a nice balance,” the actress explained.
