A Texas cop quits after demanding to know why a man can’t hit a whore. This alarming sexism has led to an investigation on whether it was an isolated incident or part of a broader culture.
This is not the first time a Texas cop has been in the news recently. According to another report from the Inquisitr , Texas cop John Holder established a close bond with 73-year-old widow Dorothy Shepard despite racial tensions.
The cop in question was Andrew Pietrowski . Peitrowski commented on a recent press release regarding another sexist incident. The incident involved two other cops, who joked about rape.
“Go ahead and call the cops. They can’t un-rape you.”
Pietrowski commented on the suspension of the two cops , “Now, stop and think about this. I don’t care who you are. You think about the women’s movement today, [women say] ‘Oh, we want to go [into] combat,’ and then, ‘We want equal pay, and we want this.’ You want to go fight in combat and sit in a foxhole? You go right ahead, but a man can’t hit you in public here? Bullshit! You act like a whore, you get treated like one!”
Pietrowski’s comment was then repeated to police chief Art Acevdeo, who said that “somebody who has that mentality has no business being a cop.” His behavior would normally lead to a formal complaint, followed by an official investigation.
This behavior, however, is said to not be as uncommon as most might think.
Civil rights attorney Jim Harrington said, “You know? This issue of how women are treated by the police has been bothering me for a long time. I know women who do training [for the police], and they talk about the attitude of the officers sitting there in the classroom sort of snickering, rolling their eyes or making comments under their breath. So, I know this is an ongoing issue.”
Upon finding out that his comments would be aired, Texas cop Andrew Pietrowski officially retired from Austin Police Department on Friday, December 12. Police are currently investigating whether Pietrowski was an isolated incident or if a large majority of the police department share similar sexist views. If so, drastic changes would need to be made to the Texas cops.
