Paramount Pictures has officially announced that the as-of-yet untitled fourth sequel in the Terminator franchise will be hitting theaters in 2015.

Terminator 5 will be released on June 26, 2015, and is currently the only film scheduled for that weekend. However, it will be preceded by Pixar’s The Inside Out on June 19 and succeeded by Pirates of the Caribbean 5 on July 10.

So far, there is very little information available about the movie, but it has been confirmed that Arnold Schwarzenegger will be returning for the fifth installment .

Patrick Lussier ( Drive Angry ) and Laeta Kalogridis ( Alexander ) are developing the script.

There has been talk that Dwayne Johnson could play a major role in the film , and may even play the lead role. While this has yet to be confirmed, Examiner reports that there is a version of the script that was written specifically with Johnson in mind.

Cinema Blend reports that Terminator 5 will be set in the 1940s and will feature Schwarzenegger as a regular human being who protects an earlier generation of the Connor family from a time traveling  Terminator (Johnson). Rumor has it that Schwarzenegger’s protection of the Connor family is what inspired the design of the T-800s fans have come to recognize.

The next step for Terminator 5 is finding a director. Justin Lin was initially attached to the project, but ended up dropping out due to scheduling conflicts with Fast & Furious 6 . Lin won’t be returning for Fast & Furious 7 , so it’s possible that he may end up in the director’s chair after all.

According to Screen Crush , Terminator 5 will also be the start of a rebooted stand-alone trilogy . Paramount is hoping to finish the new trio of films before the rights revert back to James Cameron in 2019. That would bring the number of Terminator films to seven, which is rarely seen outside of horror franchises. It is also unknown whether the rebooted trilogy will follow the previous films.
