Under normal circumstances, Teen Wolf would have premiered by now, but Dylan O’Brien’s accident has stalled the Teen Wolf production schedule and also seriously endangered the future of the Maze Runner sequel. While O’Brien’s well being is certainly the most important issue, fans are still understandably curious about what will become of Dylan’s extremely likable Teen Wolf character, Stiles Stilinski, as well as how Teen Wolf will move forward with or without the actor.
Teen Wolf Will Wait For Dylan O’Brien
Even throughout the vast array of online rumors concerning the possibility of another actor taking up the role of Stiles Stilinski on MTV’s Teen Wolf , the show’s creator, Jeff Davis, has always been steadfast in his determination to wait it out for Dylan O’Brien to recover . Now, at a time when Teen Wolf would ordinarily be gearing up for the Season 6 premiere, Davis is just as determined not to make a move until he can say for certain when O’Brien will be available.
In fact, Teen Wolf must almost certainly wait for Dylan to return, considering Davis’ revelation that the season will hinge heavily on a “Stydia” love affair, meaning O’Brien’s character will finally hook up with Lydia Martin, played by Holland Roden. Davis says the relationship between Stiles and Lydia will play heavily into the central plot of Teen Wolf , throughout Season 6.
Speaking of Season 6, the Teen Wolf showrunner said fans should expect something more like an old-fashioned monster movie. Specifically, he says “it’s going to be a ghost story … Memory. Memory plays a big part in season 6.”
Another aspect of Season 6 that will have Teen Wolf fans breathing a little easier is a teaser that Scott and Stiles will work on reaffirming their friendship, attempting to regain that brother-like trust that they lost in Season 5.
Dylan O’Brien Will Return To Teen Wolf , But The Maze Runner Sequel Is Still Questionable
When asked about Dylan O’Brien this most recent time, Jeff Davis seemed to understand fan curiosity and concern, as he opened up about Dylan’s status. Davis also seemed to have insight into the goings-on with The Maze Runner sequel , as he hinted to the status of that project in his statement as well.
“No, we aren’t replacing Stiles. Dylan O’Brien will be back to film soon,” says the Teen Wolf showrunner. “He can’t do any stunts and we’re talking with Wes Ball, the producer of The Maze Runner , we hope to get him back on Teen Wolf to film, while being injured, but the thing is, he wants to film, he’s in perfect condition. But he’s just not doing fine enough to do any stunts.”
Meanwhile, many online rumors suggest that The Maze Runner sequel has been cancelled, due to Dylan O’Brien’s injuries and inability to perform action sequences. As was suggested in Jeff Davis’ statement above, this is not at all true. Producers for Maze Runner 3 are determined to continue filming with Dylan and are confident that he will return to work within a reasonable time frame. In the meantime, production on Maze Runner 3 has merely been postponed.
“The resumption of principal photography on Maze Runner: The Death Cure has been further delayed to allow Dylan O’Brien more time to fully recover from his injuries. We wish Dylan a speedy recovery and look forward to restarting production as soon as possible,” said 20th Century Fox in a statement, regarding O’Brien’s condition.
Meanwhile, there is still some dispute between parties involved in the Maze Runner 3 filming sequence responsible for Dylan O’Brien’s injuries. WorkSafeBC, a safety agency employed on the Maze Runner set, contends that, although O’Brien had rehearsed the scene multiple times, the sequence of events in the scene were altered and Dylan wasn’t given enough time to rehearse the changes prior to shooting, which WorkSafeBC asserts increased the risk of injury.
On the other hand, Fox Productions places the blame on the trailing vehicle, stating that the driver slowed down prematurely. As a result, Dylan lost his balance, while standing on the leading vehicle, and fell between the two moving vehicles, resulting in his injuries. The Fox Productions analysis states clearly that the scene was “thoroughly rehearsed and successfully completed approximately five times prior to the accident” by O’Brien.
