This season’s Teen Wolf finale may have left off with viewers and characters lulled into a good place, but series showrunner Jeff Davis warns fans not to get too comfortable. He says next season of Teen Wolf is going to be filled with tension and mayhem.
He adds that the season finale for Teen Wolf was the first ever episode that needed to be compressed for time . Davis says there just weren’t any filler scenes that could be cut from the Teen Wolf episode, so an outside firm was brought in to compress the episode. This was done by going through the episode frame by frame and reducing run time by editing individual frames.
Teen Wolf ‘s Jeff Davis comments on the return of Crystal Reed
The Teen Wolf showrunner says that Crystal’s return for the season finale was significant in two ways. First, the way that Allison was featured in that love letter sent the message that Allison and Scott share a bond that transcends the grave. She has the power to save his life, even from beyond.
Second, Davis says Reed’s participation in the episode was a way to pay tribute to Teen Wolf of the past, as the series moves on to a future beyond high school. Most of the characters are graduating and moving into adulthood, so the Teen Wolf showrunner wanted to honor the past, before advancing the series.
At the close of the Teen Wolf finale, a new threat was seen crawling out of the machine. Davis confirms that the creature was a Nazi werewolf and that it will play a big part in next season.
Looking at Teen Wolf fan favorite characters, Davis teases big changes
Topping off the list are Lydia (Holland Roden) and Stiles (Dylan O’Brien), who, Jeff Davis reveals, still have something special. While it may have seemed like little more than lingering feelings, the Teen Wolf showrunner says “something big” will happen between Lydia and Stiles as early as the very first episode. He wouldn’t say anything more than that.
The mention that Stiles may be emotionally involved with Lydia spells bad news for Teen Wolf fans hoping for a reunion with Malia. Davis says, as of this point, it’s uncertain as to whether Marisol Nichols will even be returning to Teen Wolf . He says Nichols’ other obligation, Riverdale , may keep her from returning next season.
When it comes to Theo, played by Cody Christian, the Teen Wolf showrunner implies that we have not seen the last of him.
“I think he got his just desserts in the end, but I will say that we really like Cody Christian. We wanted to make sure we didn’t kill him, so we could possibly bring him back.”
Davis says Theo wasn’t the only Teen Wolf character to get his just desserts. He says the intention was to bring everyone back into the fold and build each character back up, after having brought them to such lows.
The Teen Wolf showrunner hasn’t forgotten about Kira (Arden Cho), for those fans wondering why she hadn’t been mentioned earlier. Davis says she will be back, but wouldn’t offer too much more beyond that, which may suggest she won’t exactly be herself.
“There are some big changes coming to the show next season; you’ll have to wait and see the fate of Kira. It was partially because we wanted her to go down a difficult path. We wanted to see her with her mother in the desert, to make sure we gave her a full episode to explore her character.”
