Ted Nugent’s State of the Union Address invite is drawing condemnation from the Educational Fund to Stop Gun Violence (EFSGV) group. A release from the gun control group claims the rock star is “notorious” form using homophobic, racist, sexist, and threatening language.
Republican Texas Representative Steven Stockman invited Ted Nugent to the State of the Union Address. The popular singer is also reportedly on the board of the NRA. Representative Stockman considers Nugent a patriot, the Houston Chronicle reports. The Texas lawmaker also reportedly noted that Nugent will “have plenty to say” after the presidential speech concludes.
The Educational Fund to Stop Gun Violence group took issue with the star’s past comments about President Barack Obama and his cabinet.
EFSGV Executive Director Josh Horwitz had this to say about Nugent’s invitation to the State of the Union Address:
“I can’t think of any public figure less appropriate for such an occasion. Nugent’s threats against the president have been investigated by the Secret Service, and now he’s going to be admitted into the House chamber as an honored guest, no less, to listen to the president’s speech.”
In America, an investigation into a person’s actions does not constitute guilt. Nugent’s philosophy and choice of adjectives might not resonate with gun control advocates; but the Secret Service did not press any charges against the rock star.
Horwitz did note that pro-gun advocates do deserve to hear the president speak, but added that one who has not “threatened” the president would be a better choice. The Education Fund to Stop Gun Violence group was also unhappy with the “Cat Scratch Fever” singer calling Hillary Clinton a “toxic c**t.”
