As The Inquisitr reported earlier this week, rocker Ted Nugent was dumped by an Indian tribe for racist remarks he made this month — and predictably, he has something to say about that.
Ted Nugent was scheduled to play August 4, before the Coeur d’Alene tribe got word of homophobic and racist comments made by the musician earlier in July.
After the tribe was contacted about the statements, a decision was made to cancel the performance. Christina Crawford, prior manager of entertainment and special events for the Coeur d’Alene tribe, was stunned that Nugent was booked in the first place, and commented before the cancellation :
“Never ever would I have booked that kind of racist at the casino… I find this astonishing… The Coeur d’Alene Tribe has a long record of involvement in human rights issues and they understand clearly what harm prejudice can do. Maybe someone just booked him as a rock-and-roll act and paid no attention to his other issues… It’s so destructive for the tribe.”
In a response clearly not atypical for Nugent, he said of the decision :
“I take it as a badge of honor that such unclean vermin are upset by me and my positive energy… Put your heart and soul into everything you do and nobody can stop you. Sometimes you give the world the best you got and you get kicked in the teeth. Give the world the best you got anyway.”
An example of the “positive energy” to which we imagine Nugent may be speaking could be found in the initial comments in question, when “Uncle Ted” said of the President:
“I scare that c***sucker, you know what I mean? He don’t like Uncle Ted because I celebrate freedom. That motherf***er don’t like freedom. He don’t like Texas. He don’t like liberty, that piece of ****. He hates Uncle Ted.”
Nugent also suggested that envy, not disapproval, was the reason behind the Coeur d’Alene concert cancellation. He said:
“By all indicators, I don’t think they actually qualify as people, but there has always been a lunatic fringe of hateful, rotten, dishonest people that hate happy, successful people.”
Nugent said of his future performances :
“As always, [concertgoers] can expect sheer outrage and a ferocious animal dance music soul music soundtrack of freedom, attitude, liberty, spirit and all-American defiance of all things status quo. Oh, yeah, and some killer love songs too… I’ve got the best band on planet Earth, and they put more energy and piss and vinegar into my music than any guitar player could ever dream of.”
Following the announcement regarding the Ted Nugent cancellation, Coeur d’Alene tribe spokesman apologized for the initial booking and pledged to “do our best to avoid such mistakes moving forward.”
