Brooklyn Nets Debut New Court

The Brooklyn Nets has a new court. The NBA’s newest team revealed its new herringbone-patterned court earlier this week at the Barclays Center.

Brett Yormark, the team’s chief executive officer, said that the court was made from maple hardwood, consists of 240 panels, and takes about four hours to assemble. According to Bloomberg , the Brooklyn Nets’ new court floor was built by Amasa, a Michigan-based Sports Flooring Manufacturing Mill.

Yormark told Bloomberg that he wanted the court to be as recognizable as the Boston Celtics floor. Yormark said:

“The vision all along was to have something that was truly identifiable and unique and when people turned on their TVs at home, know they were in Brooklyn… When you turn on the TV and you turn on a Celtics game and you look at that court, it’s a parquet that has become very recognizable. We want this to be the same.”

The court features the black and white “B” logo (which was partially designed by part owner Jay-Z) at center court surrounded by the words “Brooklyn New York.” Underneath both baskets are the words “Brooklyn Nets,” and, along the sidelines, the team has put its Twitter handle @BrooklynNets.

The new Brooklyn Nets’ court will see its first professional (but preseason) game on October 15 when the team hosts the Washington Wizards. The first regular season game will be a New York vs. New York battle as the Nets host the Knicks on November 1.
