Three Colorado teens are now facing murder charges after the shooting death of 19-year-old Mark Chalfant which took place in early June at an Aurora, Colorado Taco Bell.
According to a previous report by The Inquisitr , Mark was shot and killed during an altercation with three men in the parking lot of the Aurora Taco Bell , located at 3554 South Tower Road, near East Hampden Avenue, around midnight on June 4.
CBS News has reported that 18-year-old Calvin Banks, 17-year-old Sterling Hook, and 16-year-old Vincent Rucker face first-degree murder charges in the shooting death of Mark Chalfant. While the reasoning behind the June 4 altercation was previously unknown, police are now saying that the altercation and Mark’s death all resulted in a drug deal gone sour.
Court records reportedly say that Chalfant attempted to sell marijuana to the three teens. The report continues on to say that the three teens had planned on “doing a lick” (street slang for robbery) of Mark’s marijuana before running off. According to CBS News , Mark had negotiated to sell the three weed for $180 before the altercation took a bad turn.
The Denver Post stated that the teens all agreed to meet in the Taco Bell parking lot. Hook reportedly was the one to approach Mark in the Taco Bell parking lot on the night of the incident, and a fight between the two ensued. Court documents state that Rucker ran up to the pair and at some point Hook fired a gun. According to The Inquisitr , witnesses who heard the struggle called the local authorities, and Mark was taken to a local hospital. Unfortunately, Mark died of his injuries on the way to the hospital.
When police surveyed the Taco Bell parking lot, they reportedly discovered a gun and a bag of marijuana in Mark’s car. After the shots were fired, witnesses reportedly told police that they saw Hook drop the gun, pick it back up and then throw it through the car’s windows.
All three teens are currently being held without bail, and both Banks and Rucker are being charged as adults. While all three teens are now facing first-degree murder charges, Banks and Rucker are also facing seven felony counts, and Hooks faces six felony counts. According to the Denver Pos t, all three will remain in police custody at this time and their next court appearance has been scheduled for September 16, 2014.
