“Supernatural” is and always will be the little show that could. The show about two monster hunting brothers (played by Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki) has generally flown under the radar from the very beginning. And while it’s ratings have always stayed relatively constant, thanks to TNT syndication and the new CW Wednesday night lineup, which includes “Arrow,” “Supernatural’s” ratings have risen this season.
The fourteenth episode of its 8th season, which aired on February 13, gave “Supernatural” its second highest rating , coming in at 2.41 million viewers for the night. Episode two had the highest, coming in at 2.51 million viewers. Both scored a 1 in demos. These numbers may not mean anything in comparison to TV shows on prime time networks, but for the CW and “Supernatural,” it’s definitely a good thing.
After “Supernatural’s” 5th season, the CW banished it to Friday nights, presumably to fall off the grid and get cancelled, but the drama held its own for two seasons before being moved back to a regular weeknight.
According to TV by the Numbers , “Supernatural” hit a season high in the 18-34 demographic and rose 8% in viewership with last week’s aforementioned episode, titled “Trial and Error.”
What do all these numbers mean? Well, for one, “Supernatural” has been confirmed for early renewal . Yes, the Winchester brothers will be hunting monsters and fighting the good fight for another year. No word yet on whether or not the show will remain paired with “Arrow” on Wednesday nights.
